After earning a bit of money in RES in my Cobra, I tried to go for a different line of duty. I grinded 6M (about 4h) in a T6 going between two outposts, and the flying was fine (shaving off those last seconds) but the trading bored me.
I then upgraded to an ASP with a combined trader's/explorer's outfit (the compromise is actually ok), but it turns out that I do not love exploring either.
So, I traded all that stuff in again, and am now sitting in a 14M Vulture - and LOVE IT!
On the way to my favorite RES - I found another RES halfway and decided to pop in. WOW! At one point I took on an Anaconda (NPC) wing with two Eagles on without support. I did have to break off the attack, since when I got the second eagle, the Anaconda had managed to take down my shields.
They also had a combat zone there, which looked like fun, but the guys that were butchering the system security were the feds, and I am green with them, so I left with about 2M in bounties.
For me personally, I guess RES grinding is the right thing to do, and the vulture may be my weapon of choice.
The hardpoint position is excellent for gimballed lasers. It comes naturally to me that the other ships pass above, not below me. The vulture keeps firing then, whereas for the cobra I needed to try to go above them, but visibility is worse there.
Per what everyone else said, I put 3G pulses on it, I might try beams instead, really liked them on the cobra.
