Back into the void

so after debating & waiting 1.6 / horizons etc or just heading out i have decided to fly out into the nether until horizons hits i did a bit of a stint earlier and i am now 2kly out.

i am avoiding the tourist routes in the hope of finding "something" which i dont know what that is yet :)

i took a diamondback explorer in the end because i wanted to mix it up, plus in white i love the screenshot possibilities, already found a new earth like world undiscovered but mainly lots of Icy worlds must be this particular area.

my saved screenshots arnt showing up on my smartglass app not sure where the Xbox saves them to, so i can only upload this one below i took from a quick game clip video while i was scooping

You should stay close to the bubble while still moving around that far out. So you get discoveries and visit planets but you're not too far away when Horizons hits. You'll want that SRV. :)

Yeah I cant wait for the srv, I found a canyon yesterday I'd like to revisit too, but I'm not that far out ill keep going until the release date hits, worse case is it takes me a week or two to get back if they release unexpected iv waited this long :)

Welcome to the club, Cmdr! o7

I'm just passing 7 Kly. I'll dig up my old thread & update with some new pics later tonight.

Fly safe!

Some wonderfully bright rings

Another Waterworld with huge ice caps, i didn't see Kevin Costner though :(

Managed to find a binary star to jump into last night which was a lucky escape, quite impressed how cool the diamondback runs with all modules switched off, which all helped me jump out without going above 140% heat :)

spent the night in an asteroid field, i like to think it hides my ship and no-one will ever think to look there!

Great pics, Cmdr :D

The white DBE is awesome, it was the very first thing I did the day paintjobs were available. I didn't even try any other colour, just painted my DBE's white and sat there and basked (hail the Empire) in it's magnificence! :D

i even painted the python white, i didnt like it though but i still have an imperial armoury sat at "home"

Imperial Eagle
Imperial Courier
Imperial Clipper
Asp EX (kept for sentimental reasons my first exploration ship)
"Imperial" DBx

coincidently Empire will be getting alot of data when i return :D

Good luck with your trip! You should be able to find your screenshots on http://www.xboxdvr.com.

Safe travels CMDR! Best of luck!

22Kly currently for me, chilling at the Annihilator. Despite it being a tourist spot, if you haven't seen it yet I highly recommend it. That's if you head out that far.

I tried to avoid the DW route and avoided the obvious nebulas, in hopes of finding undiscovered systems. Besides most of the neutrons along the way, there was a good 15-20kly where I didn't see a single name on a system. It wasn't until I was near the Great Annihilator that I saw another name on a system.

You shouldn't have much trouble finding undiscovered systems, I only went 1500ly out on my first trip and found several dozen. Good luck!

i've tagged a few systems already, now im just looking for weird & specific planets and wandering off in one direction, 5Kly out and counting, picking certain stars to stop at on the way.

i found an ELW early on undiscovered which surprised me to be honest as it was in the middle of loads of discovered systems, appears to be one people missed on the way to a certain nebula, but i turned off that course into the great black abyss where no-one has been for the past 2kly

i'd like to find an unexplored black hole before i come back so lets see what happens first, black hole or horizons

well, a bit of an uneventful evening flying through the void, i only managed 500LY as i was busy scanning unexplored systems with waterworlds, i can't help myself as soon as i see the stars im always popping into the systems rather than just firing through space to where i want to be...

started a search for a black hole unsuccessful so far, but i found a crazy system with a "O" "B" binary and 7 other B stars... no black holes though :(

i noticed my systems are a little odd, one heatsink has disappeared i have 6 left but i should have 7 :( and my subsystems deteriorate while i log off, this didnt happen last time i was out, the AFMU is doing its job but i didnt expect to use it yet, advanced & surface discovery scanner were down to 72% & 84% ??

is it because im running so cold through the systems ~7% heat with non essential equipment switched off? see below

i am going to try and cover some distance over the next few days so ill be quiet for a while as it will be mainly brown dwarves except for the refuels :)

The best advice I can give for finding black holes is to go to the galaxy map and filter it so only non-sequence stars are visible. Then zoom out and scan around a bit. Most of what you find will likely be neutron stars but you will probably find a few black holes as well. But when you zoom out, the name of the system will appear where it has found a system within your filter.

awesome thanks, i'll have a play around although previous attempts at manipulating the xbox galaxy map and selecting the system i want has made me want to strangle the FD developers.

Well it has been an eventful few days in the cockpit of the DBx, Number one learning for those aspiring explorers is, ensure your speed gets to 30km/s (or whatever the minimum is is super cruise) before clicking system map to check for nice shiny planets, because while there is nothing in front of you right now the loading screen can take longer than expected (2 minutes) and guess what you can't steer your ship!!!

anyway i made my escape from that star, bad news is PP is down to 93%
Screenshot-Original.png

I found a ringed planet to hide in while scanning every planet in the system (again) and cant help it, great view of the nebula in the distance though

Screenshot-Original.png

Getting a little bit frosty as i passed though the seagull nebula on the way, have to say i was a little disappointed with that particular nebula as the colours were not that strong

Screenshot-Original.png

Still no luck on an undiscovered blackhole as of late, but the search continues, really dark out on the edge!

Screenshot-Original.png

And finally, looking back to distant stars, notice the shooting star at the bottom of the picture? what is that? i didn't notice it at the time
Screenshot-Original.png

All in all the DBx is still going strong i have done a fair bit of mileage but my plan is to get back to about 3kly where ill do some economy routing to capture the rest of an unexplored area i found on the way out, that way i can just hop back in for an SRV when Horizons hits "soon", i am 8 days out so i feel i need to be closer to the core in case it lands "soon"

++ i got spoilers and pics to work thanks to Bongo!!
