back to elite: a couple of newbie questions

Good morning all, I'm back to Elite after a couple of months pause and I found myself totally stranded by the huge powerplay informations and options.

I selected to pledge with Felicia Winters (Federation) but honestly I didn't understand what will change in my gameplay sessions...

Usually I am around Eravate and Frigaha, selling metals and stuff, i'm not a real badass, i just mind my own business and relax with this amazing game without becoming a real Hardcore Commander... But now I need to know this... I am still around Eravate... I discovered that the Headquarters of Felicia Winters is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay long from here... I mean is at the opposite of the galaxy...

Should I try to reach that area to have benefits? Or can I ignore this details and continue to my beloved mid level and boring commercial business?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks :)

You can ignore powerplay, for sure. It's more for those seeking faction like game play. It doesn't really effect the over all game.

Edit: the modules are trivial, and uness you feel passionate about one factions cause, CG trading will benefit you more than PP trading. That is, unless you have a massive amount of free time :p and I'm talking massive

Hi Commander.
Fellow Winterite here. I would suggest you have two options.
1. Move over to Winters space and get involved, do the same as you are doing now with a bit of PP thrown in. Useful links ....
https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteWinters/

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=134282

2. Identify your local power, depledge and pledge to them.

PP is not for everyone, but a good number find it fun.

Fair winds and enjoy your choice

Edit: CG community goals...not great since 1.3, PP is PowerPlay.

Haha no worries! I can see it must have been a long time indeed.

CG = Community Goal
these are found here. They can offer high credit output to CMDRs who partake. Make sure to follow the instructions and "sign up" for the CG before selling any cargo. They are pretty straight forward.

Powe play trading is tier based and highly competitive. It's only really worth getting into if you like the lore of one faction. You get paid based on rank, however earning higher ranks can take weeks of staying on top and competing with hundreds of other CMDRs.

It should be noted that the weapons and modules that are the rewards for power play rank are deemed generally... well... useless by the community. Definitely not worth the grind.

Hopefully this helps! Trading is still the best way to make cash!

BTW, not sure when you played last, but check out RES (resource extraction sites) they will blow your mind hehe

(Fly near a planet with rings and target the RES. Disengage like you normally would for entering a station. Bring lots of guns!))

Just like to add, if I may, that joining a power does not stop you trading as normal, cg'ing or res hunting, but will restrict where you can do these activities.

Getting rich via PP mechanics alone is not easy.

Whoa, that's quite interesting. So... PowerPlay means also quite more RolePlay. Okei that I like.

I should start to move... I really am afraid of loosing myself anyway... I remember the first time I planned a long trip (at the beginning) I stopped in the middle of nowhere without fuel. So I'm a bit afraid of long trips... But I will try to reach Winters space.

Maybe I will ask help to plan a route with some experienced Commander.

Another little question: what do you mean Commander Poidsly with Identify your local power, depledge and pledge to them? To change my actual line? I think that I'm more into Felicia's alignment than the Others.

Maybe I should add someone of you more experienced Commanders into my friendlist to ask help when I'm online, I'm really in need of help sometime...

Thanks for your advices. That is mosly appreciated!!!

This RES thing is totally new to me and a little obscure actually, but having such kind people like you two telling me and advicing about the game will surely make my gameplay sessions better.

Thanks both, I will try to add you on my friendlist (if I will be able) to have such experience at disposal while you are online.

Thanks again :)

If you're a fan of the role play, powerplay is perfect for you :) you can still trade, but as mentioned by Poid be very careful where you go. Pledging (joining a team) to one power will flag you as an enemy in another power's terrotory and NPCs and players alike will hunt you down for "Merits" (a new game mechanic based solely on powerplay)

Merits determine rank ( I think) so the more merits you ha e the higher your rank. The higher your rank the more perks. Ranks are based on % compared to other CMDRs merits so it's a very competitive system by nature.

If that happens again, don't forget you can call on the services of the Fuel Rats. If you ask them nicely they'll come and rescue you in their big yellow van :)

You are welcome. My commander name is exactly as below

Dreadnought

As for navigation....in the Nav tab of the galaxy map there is are two options for route planning. Economical and fastest I believe. Fastest is best with the right ship.

Fit a fuel scoop. Carry no cargo. Ensure you scoop fuel at viable stars - A B F G K M O
What ship are you flying? Strip it down. Best FSD.

As for PP unpledged. You can change powers in the PP menu. You have to unpledged and defect to whoever controls local space. Check the galaxy map - PowerPlay view.

Can you explain me how to do that? So if I'm stuck what should I do monkeymagoo?

Thanks for the tip :)

You literally go to their website, and they have a chat function. Shout 'help!' and they'll ask you where you are, and if they have anyone nearby. Then they'll tell you to stay calm, power everything down and wait for rescue. I heard about an epic rescue of an Anaconda last week (I think) that involved a big team effort. It sounded brilliant. They rescued me once and it was the best gaming experience I've had for ages. Sitting there in my ship with the windows frosting up when a whole bunch of them jumped out of hyperspace and filled my tank up. :)

I actually fly an MK3 and I have a Zargon Peterson Hauler in Eravate's Hangars.

My ship is not TOP TIER because I'm not such rich (700.000cr I'm trying to save for a Type 6) and actually I don't have a fuel scoop but if you say I should have it I will do.

I'm a little afraid of misconfiguring the ship (also that happened leaving me with an useless SideWinder some time ago... :p

Why you suggest me to unpledge? I read somewhere that If I unpledge someone will get very angry at me... And since my combat skills are not so high... I could have some bad times :p

And this thread proves this community still has a heart.

I need to remember that. Easy to forget.

Hauler is a great long range explorer. You'd need to sell or strip the Cobra and fit the hauler with the top FSD and a fuel scoop. You will get close on 30 ly per jump I think. Easy trip.

Unpledging....its just an option. 1 of 2. No need to do it :)

Nice! This sounds great to me! And yes, I'm in office now. I dunno where you live, I'm in italy so maybe we can arrange a game session after dinner tonight or during this week.

I usually don't play that much because I literally don't have time... With my family and business stuff... But I would be delighted to have you in my friendlist so when I'm online I can have a good fellow helping me out.

That was a great idea of mine to post that question on the forums :) I'm such happy now :p

Sell your cobra, and turn your hauler into this:

You will be able to fly pretty far pretty fast in order to relocate to winter's area. Once you're there rebuy your cobra :)

And according to this

Eravate to Rhea would be 5 or 6 jumps in that.

It seems like that my boring trader life is becoming much more interesting thing.

Amazing, I will sell my Cobra in my lunch pause (starting from 1hr from now I will have 45 minutes to do that preparations at home) and tonight I will start this damn long trip.
