Ships Back to the Drawing Board

I built what I thought would be a good FDL. The theorycrafting seemed solid but it didn't pan out. I got popped way too fast and couldn't stay on targets. My Vulture was really tanky and I could almost sit in an enemy's exhaust trail. I know the FDL isn't as maneuverable, but it also wasn't as survivable.

I loved the idea of the FDL, but the reality has me doubting my lifechoices at this point.

Any tips on where I can improve it?

For one, I would switch the class 4 interdictor out for a class 2 one, you could fit a shield cell bank or something instead of it.

I personally would also ditch the ECM and point defence on FDL in exhange for shield boosters and one heat sink.

I also prefer the bi-weaves over normal shield generators.

Here is mine, although pretty much everything is engineered on it.

Very tanky for my purposes which are mainly RES hunting, with a few minor changes I use it for CZ too.

A-rated life support and sensors aren't needed, I use them for convenience.

build looks rather solid (besides as above: booster instead of ecm and bi-weave).

my fdl doesn't even have bulkheads.

may i suggest, instead of going back to the drawing board, going back to an eagle for a while? it's what i do if i get lazy piloting. the eagle isn't fast, so you have to think ahead, and it can't tank. it needs pips management and lateral and vertical thruster management. once you are good with it (again), the FDL will feel like godmode.

The build is ok.
Though gimbal pulses are not the best choice if you are not gonna engineer them, the damage is not so great on their own unless you go fixed mount for extra damage.
Plus you avoid enemy chaffs that way.

I would also take emphasis on shield tanking and ditch the kill warrant and ECM
If the FDL loses shields you bail, imo. Therefore I do not carry armor because it slows down the ship.

Also the ship is not good for staying on target in the same manner as the Vulture because it drifts a lot, you cant fly it in the same way.
I am no expert in any measure, but I would recommend strafing more than turning when fighting.
