Tomorrow is the Odyssey launch.

For new players, it is highly recommended you back up the file used that contains all your key maps you've created - it may not be necesary, but it's worth doing in case things go belly up.

The path you need to look in is:

C:\Users\%YOURYSERNAME%\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings

In there is a file called custom.3.0.BINDS - copy this somewhere safe outside of the Elite directory.

The Odyssey file is called custom.4.0.BINDS which will have been created for those taking part in the alpha testing of Odyssey (and is in the same directory). I've backed this up as well. I'm not sure that, when the live version hits, the Odyssey binds will all disappear so I'm hoping a copy back may be the order of the day.

I don't think the old .binds file will work with Odyssey, though. At least it won't be a "drag and drop" deal.
Due to many more new bindings I think the best we can hope for is being able to copy/paste the old sections of the file into the corresponding places of the new one at which point I think it would be safer and most possibly also easier to simply re-bind everything from scratch, adding the new things to places that make sense rather than trying to decipher the mess copy/pasting parts of the old bindings would cause.

So I'd say - If you're only continuing with Horizons (now "base game"), keep your .binds file and copy it over if the update cleans the Options folder.
If you played Alpha and have the 4.0.binds, keep it and copy over once Odyssey is installed.
If you play Horizons but didn't play Alpha and are upgrading to Odyssey - just spend those 10 minutes with rebinding and save yourself a potential headache.

On the other hand, most of us who use HCS, Gravity, etc. won't probably avoid the headache one way or another, anyway, soo... yeah.
