Back Up Your Save Data ASAP!

It has happened to others, and it just happened to me:

Back up your saved data ASAP, otherwise you'll be very sad / angry if and when this happens to you...

Didn't you have PS Plus? It is supposed to do backups.

Yes, thankfully, but for reasons unknown to me (perhaps a PS4 setting), the backup was a couple of months old. So the good news is that I didn't need to remap my controller. The bad news is that I lost my entire record of visited systems from my recent trip to Colonia. I really wish this (visited systems) data was stored on the server. Either that or give us a filter to view "discovered systems" which I know is kept on the server.

Being hardwired to the internet at 200 MBPS (although Sony doesn't use it) so it updates any games or OS saving time later. I never park an ED ship without first cashing in on bounties, planetary scans or completing missions. Same for my PC account thus I never lose anything. Of course if one is 30K LY from the bubble with 20 million in planetary scans this might not work. I can save on a flash drive on the PS4 but haven't tested it.

Call me stupid but I thought the game saves were kept on the server and not on our PS4's?

Your CMDR data is saved to the server, but all your game settings are saved on your PS4. This actually makes sense to me. What I don't understand is why visited systems data is saved on the PS4 instead of the server.

Disclaimer - I'm trusting what other people are saying regarding visited system data. I'll check Colonia in the galaxy map to make sure they know what they are talking about. That said, my DS4 is heavily customized from the default, and losing those mappings would have been "disappointing" to say the least.

UPDATE

Colonia shows up as visited!!! Wooohooo :D

So the question is, are the people saying "visited systems data is stored locally" wrong, or was the timestamp shown on my ED data backup on PSN incorrect?

I think we’d all appreciate a word on exactly what saves where and if this is known to be a bug (and what’s causing it) from an official source. Quite quickly, please!

Think it's the former, the saved data clearly says 'game configuration settings'. So I agree with Welsh.

OK, it maybe useful and then again maybe not. But an ounce of prevention can save one a pound of cure. That said, how does one go about saving it as you first suggested. I know it's somewhere in settings, can you narrow it down please?

I agree with you in regards to ED, but if you go and erase that data for Horizon Zero Dawn, I'm 99% sure you'll start back and the beginning as if you hadn't played at all. Why don't you try it and tell us what happens? :p

Yes, agree. Slight difference though.

Elite Dangerous says "game configuration settings" where as HZD says "Blah blah Blah - Currently on this specific quest - Level 50 etc etc". Its about as clear as something that is really clear. :)

I am pretty sure that only your config settings and login credentials are stored locally. Everything that is important should be stored on the game servers.
