background image is blend and flat... please change it...

After using MaxVR with the oculus rift (BTW, this is the best video cinema app for oculus), there is a "Scene" mode to see the movie with a Space background.

It is amazing how rich and realistic the space background looks compared the static image used by ED. Not only the colors are more vibrant, but you can clearly see some depth with some stars/systems appearing in different plans, and different colors.

I highly recommend that ED developers (and everyone with rift) spend the $9 to buy this oculus app, and see what I mean. It will make it so much richer and would greatly enhance realism while in superdrive or normal speed.

PLEASE check it out.

I don't think you would expect to see much in the way of depth from a background of stars which are hundreds of lightyears away? Regardless of how amazing it may look, anything you have seen in MaxVR that shows space having depth would not be realistic.

As boring and static as it may look in Elite Dangerous I'm afraid thats just realism for you.

I also find the skybox rather flat and boring. Yes, I understand that this is probably what real space would look like but if we're going to talk realism, let's start with the sound in space... There doesn't seem to be any 3D effects beyond your cockpit. This is particularly jarring in stations.

There's no 3D beyond the cockpit? maybe you forgot to put on your rift.

There is plenty of 3D beyond the cockpit.

Definitely not a static image in the skybox, it changes relative to your position in the galaxy. IE the closer to the center the more stars you can see and the brighter the sky box. Also as you head toward the core, it changes it's position if you are above or below the galaxy, and gets much larger. It has also been my experience that the stars are in the location that they belong in according to the galaxy map. I say this because when I lock on to a new system I can almost always see a star in the center of the target, unless it is a dim star, or inside a nebula that I am traveling though.

Have any of you actually tried MaxVR to see what I am talking about?

Probably not, once you do, you WILL WANT the same skybox in ED. It is actually incredibly similar but so much more vibrant...

At least I would expect the devs to spend the $9 for this software... BTW, watching movies with MaxVR makes you feel you are actually in a movie theater. I tried like 4 other ones but this one is make for the Rift!!!

I wish we could share rift 360 snapshots...

If you want larger than life unrealistic perspective experience sure, if you want realistic, it IS realistic as it stands. Once our eyes reach a certain focal point of distance, everything is flat. Of course the rest of the universe is going to look flat to our closely spaced eyes, this is 100% natural. If you're seeing true 3D depth of stars in the distant background with this MaxVR, that actually breaks the true illusion of reality, because its then suggesting that these systems are actually up close and super tiny.

As for colour vibrance I'll take your word for it as I haven't experienced MaxVR first hand, but again its like do you want to experience how the sky really looks, or how it looks in some cool timelapse Vimeo video of the nightsky where the long exposure has super enhanced the vibrancy of things in a way our eyes never see naturally.

I'm in the natural camp :)
