Backupping the customized controller settings

Hi all,

I upgraded to premium beta yesterday and I'm much enjoying the ED-experience.

I had no technical issues whatsoever setting up trackIr and joystick, but I find tweaking / "finetuning" the settings of the controls the most challenging part at the moment.

That being said, I did do some customization and would like to be able to backup the settings i customized, just in case FD decides to wipe or I mess them up :)

I have used default install options of the game. In the folder:

C:\Users\<me>\AppData\Roaming\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options

I found the file fsave_options006 with update timestamp corresponding to my last save. Can anyone confirm whether this file contains controller settings, as I prefer not to empirically test it at this point

Thanks in advance

It does, but I wouldn't rely on it as a backup that you can use in later versions because FD may change the format in subsequent releases. Restoring it after a new version is installed could potentially introduce unforeseen issues.

I hope at some point the introduce the ability to export and import controls. Would make it easier to switch between different setups and allow people to share their control setups.

With the Beta you can go to:
C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings
and from within there you'll see Custom.Binds which you can back up.

Now whether that'll be compatible with future builds, I've no idea.

In addition to this, the game will pickup any *.binds files in that location, so if you copy 'custom.binds' and rename the copy 'mytest1.binds' it will show up in the list of pre-configured options ingame. I use this for when my son visits as we can very quickly select our own configurations. As stated previously by others though I don't think we can be 100% sure about backward compatibility with future releases.

Does this not work any more? I just tried to do this as I switch between keyboard/mouse and all my controls whether I am at home or not. I copied the 'custom' file and renamed it to 'home.binds' and it does not show up on the drop down list.

Never mind
The profile will not load and show up on the list if the used controllers are not plugged in.

They really need to have a 'save as' function in the game.. instead of it just changing the custom profile. Seems like that would be a really basic feature :p :D
