Bacterial colonies, any tips to find them?

Hoping they're not all "pink viper" error, anyone have tips on finding them? Those bacterial colonies are hella hard to find

Bacterial colonies were the final type of bio signal out of five on a planet I was surveying. I eventually gave up. What do they even look like?

Flat patterns on the sand, you stand sod all chance of finding them without the sampler ping outlining them in green.

Bacteria are usually planet wide - go for a bit of a fly, just to break the monotony, and try again

Is it the blue bits (from the scan) they appear in?

The one I found ended up giving me the "Pink Viper" error repeatedly so I just gave up and jumped away from the system.

I made it! Around ~2h to get 3 samples of bacterial colonies

Bacterial colonies were the final type of bio signal out of five on a planet I was surveying. I eventually gave up. What do they even look like?

In alpha they were discolored blobs of ground. Rare to find.
What I did was hop up in the air and twirl around to see if I could see any discoloration in the distance.

Tried to use a ship launched fighter to do low flights but that kicks you out into space. Haven't tried it in live but dare I say it would still be broken. You also can't land a ship launched fighter (or nobody knows if you can because you kicked into space) and you can't exit.
