Bad decisions by dumb people.

So the folks at obsidian orbital are now using unknown alloys to reinforce the station. Smell fishy to anyone else? *Secures Tin Foil Hat*.

Following yesterday's remarkable discovery of non-human structures in the Pleiades Nebula, starport markets have been inundated with meta-alloys – a mysterious material produced by the alien 'barnacles'. At present, very little is known about this commodity, but it seems it may have helped bring some stability to Obsidian Orbital, one of the starports affected by the mysterious malfunctions sweeping the galaxy. According to a recent statement, the station's technical team conducted an eleventh-hour experiment that, remarkably, seems to have improved things at the beleaguered starport:

"Things have gone from bad to worse recently, so when the meta-alloys started flooding in we thought...why not give it a shot? And somehow it seems to have worked. I don't know how the meta-alloys helped, exactly, but we think they're countering whatever it is that's causing the malfunctions. As soon as we have more concrete information, we'll let you know. For now we're remaining cautiously optimistic."

The exact cause of the technological 'plague' blighting the galaxy is still not known, so whether the meta-alloys represent a permanent solution can only be guessed. But many will be hoping that this breakthrough heralds the end of the mysterious malfunction epidemic.

From what I have read you may want to replace the tin foil hat with a meta alloy one:p

On a more serious note I wonder if carrying both the alloys and a UA reduce the negative effects of the UA on a ship. I would love to pop over and try but I'm a tad far away... I'm of course assuming that we can buy alloys from the Orbital.

A classic Problem>Reaction>Solution situation, and the human race is walking straight into it...

Yes, let's use this weird, unknown thing to help combat the damage that was done by the other weird, unknown thing without knowing the consequences, or even what these weird, unknown things are.

If it's "fixing" OO then it may well just be that the station's getting an in-flux of a very sought after commodity, and so making a boatload of profit. And with profit you can make repairs.

It may be nothing more than that.

Right now Obsidian Orbital is likely going to have pretty much a monopoly on meta-alloy thanks to it being the only station with 175 light years of the source.

This is pretty lucrative!

Part of me wonders if meta-alloys aren't a precursor to an invasion. Like, what if Frontier's plan is to have us find the UAs, then find the meta-alloys, use them to make stronger-hulled ships, and then have the Thargoids invade.

I'm not trying to imply that repairing the orbital with them was a good idea, I'm just saying that it may be part of Frontier's plan. Maybe there'll be meta-alloy hull plating that we can buy in a week or two.

Honestly I wouldn't mind if I catch some strange disease that turns me into a thargoid if I head out that way.. Then at least I might feel involved with the damn story

Sounds like Reaper tech.

They are all indoctrinated in Obsidian.

Typical humans, my 2 cents.. If poop hits the fan, it was thrown from that station..

We will be the vanguards of our own destruction.

And I absolutely can not wait for Mass Effect: Andromeda. Hoping they reveal more at E3 this year.
