Powerplay Faction: Arissa Lavigny-Duval Bad prep/expansion choice

Gitse - why?

1. Not particularly productive
2. Distant from our capital
3. in the middle of enemy territory & close to the enemies capital
4. has resisted with failed expansions for two weeks in a row
5. will be difficult to defend even if by chance we do take it
6. taking a slot from a profitable system that we could be expanding into and helping our Empire

Gitse is what we've been calling a 'weaponised' preparation/expansion. The point of it was to damage Winters' standing balance, and push them closer to turmoil. Winters themselves did this to us in Amuzgo, Shenggan, and HIP 44811. We've done it in return to Winters in Cofalyawa and Lopocares.

The three weeks Gitse was in expansion in a row were bugged expansions. There was no organised push from organised groups. But, yes, we have pushed and failed to expand in Gitse at least 5 times over the past year (counting the bugs).

There are no more profitable systems left to prepare or expand into. The past five or six successful expansions all add to our standing deficit. They are profitable when fortified, as is Cofalyawa. That's where we have been looking to with preparations and expansions. This week the decision is between Gitse, Puntin (-5cc), and HIP 39391 (-6cc). I hope you'll help us in whichever one our organised heavy haulers choose to back.

Belated thanks for the explanations. I think I stopped checking the thread in a huff just before you posted. :)

Didn't realize the back to back weeks were a bug; makes sense now.

Am I the only one mystified by the constant push into unprofitable Thanatos? 4 overlapping systems would only seem to antagonize a non-rival Senator Torval who has been getting hammered a bit in the rankings anyway.

I've been trying to suggest Belgitan as a revenue neutral and overlap free expansion choice, if distant. We seem so tantalizingly close to unseating Mahon lately.

Thanatos isn't that mystifying when you realise that there is a strong fifth column aiming to sabotage our Emperor from within via bad prep targets. Looks like this week they're pushing another system while Research hopes we can push Tujil and finally secure that 7cc.

Around Cycle 53-74, before Consolidation was introduced, our fifth column managed to add a dozen deficit causing systems despite our best efforts to stop them. I think there are about eight systems that cost the Power around -70cc each every week, with maybe only +21cc returned if they're fortified. It's fairly impractical for us to lose them the way the current mechanics work. That's one reason we strive really hard to ensure our suggested preparation targets win every week.

Thanks for your help in pushing Belgitan last week as a prep. I'm sure the Discord will have CMDRs forming wing to either expand in Belgitan or to attack the Feds.
