This topic is all about ships.
And it's about the stupid design so far. It only caters to extreme basics. Which is fair enough. We have our system of engineers and we do what we want with it. In a marketing strategy of "Realistic Galaxy" you should (FD) sell the same idea on a ship purchase. We can purchase those prefab ships, but they are 1 dimensional. Just a series of stats. They should not be so.
You see, each of those ships that you can buy should be capable of blurring the lines. Engineers provides a very "ahem" "Quick" way of levelling up to kill and destroy. The player "Knows" he is better than the other ship. Say, he has made an Anaconda killer from a Krait or whatever. It could even be a small ship.
What if we had engineering "Lessons" instead? I mean then, we would have a LOT of very worried pilots looking at other ships. Say, you could see a 3d representation of your engine. As stock. You could see where the engineers strip crap out to give you better range. But you realize "I have to find this material and refine it" to give better cooling. Somewhere out in the Universe, it's gotta be there. The umbrella Alien poop! I can use that! It works like Starlite! Or, right! Im going to take these STUPID heat vanes out and replace them with an Impeller.
All of a sudden, people are very taken aback, and VERY, VERY careful. They have to sit down and really, really think... Is this a good idea?
Thoughts please.
