Balls of Energy in Alaunus - Science Needed

I was just in the Alaunus system this evening. This is one of those new things found there ("It's life, Jim, but not as we know it"):
AB573E17BE836EA1850EBEF310AE10F421EBE9F0

Don't get any closer than 174 meters or it sends out an electrical shock that brings your power down almost immediately and if not careful you'll find yourself without shields within seconds. Sort of like an electric eel.

Here's the need for SCIENCE: Noise. There's an odd noise in the background. If you get your ship within 200 meters, you can use the external camera to get really close to it. Listen carefully. You'll hear a pattern in the noise. It's very, very subtle. I don't want to go around with a tin-foil hat here, but there might be one of those imbedded pattern in it. I don't have the software to check this sort of thing but after the last time when images were picked out of a noise in the game, I wouldn't doubt if FD did this again.

Again, not sure, but someone with the software should go out there, record this thingy and see if we've been given another puzzle.

Not sure they're related but they certainly have the same effect. Also, this electrical shock works really, really fast. The youtube video I watched showed the guy flying just under it and wow, boom, etc.

I'm not 100% certain that there is something buried in the noise but it certainly sounds like a repeating pattern (to my ears, anyway). I just don't have the software to confirm one way or the other. I wouldn't be surprised at all if there was some kind of image in it.

Have You tried to scan it with Composition Scanner? :)

Those will be markers for some "Collective ****** (unreadable) Systems", whatever that will be.

O.K. we will have to find particular types that will produce some discovery.
Even worse, you will have to scan same thing for different data, aka patterns (like on obelisks).
Love this game

Ah, good find! I ran into these in another system (looked different to the one here, but same non the less). saw my scanner with some weird signals, boost, and I didn't even see it, I just got zapped as I flew right over it :D

It is things like this with the beyond update that make it worth while, I only hope that more content is added to revolve around them!

I'm going to go ahead and change my mind about leaving my fighter hanger behind on my next exploration trip.

I don't think that'll help. Against my better judgment I tried shooting it, laser, guns, missile, no effect, no damage, no reaction. The only thing that does anything is YOUR proximity to it. Once you get closer than 174 meters the lightning effect could happen at any second.

Yup, scanned it and it just comes up with an entry to the Codex as "confirmed find" instead of "reported". I don't remember seeing anything regarding "collective..." anything but I'm still in that system; will take another look.

BTW, those Jacks in Space also have a mild sound in the background. Perhaps we need to record the audio on all these new "things" and see if FD stuffed a picture for us again. Just to be sure, of course.

Wow, just read all that. You're right - same system. Yikes. :O

Look carefully.

Oh yeah, noticed it. "New trait found for S####..." (whatever that's supposed to mean).

Odd thing is that for the globes that I had found, no nebula like I was expecting. There's a third pocket of "odd" stuff with jacks but this time the nebula was barely visible. Not sure if this was a glitch or not.

UPDATE 1: Just noticed that there's THREE types of these things (I have two "reported" and one "confirmed" Q09 which is where I'm at), Q04 and Q08 so reactions may vary. This means that Q01,2,3,6,7 (and possibly 10 and above) still haven't been reported to the Codex.

UPDATE 2: If you approach the Q09 inside the 170 meter range, it starts to shoot energy at you, scan it again, you get "All traits observed" - Codex entry updates to include "APPROACHES AND RELEASES DESTRUCTIVE SHOCKWAVE".

UPDATE 3: The "Purpurelus (purple??) Metalic Crystals" have one trait: Don't bump into them at high speed. No reaction to laser, guns, missiles, flashing the headlights, etc. They ARE very hard and solid, however, so don't fly into them at high speeds. It would be bad.

UPDATE 4: Now in HIP 15310 in front of a crystal, slightly different sound, lots of low-frequency thumping, probably just sound effects just to make it sound spooky.

Loot at the "orb". ;)

I had to put that image in Photoshop and hit FILTER then SHARPEN and SHARPEN MORE several times.
Is that writing????? Looks like it. I can't make out what it says.

Tried embossing, I can just make out CO on the first line, FECE on the second line and ONE STEM on the third line. The lightning bolts are all over the screen so reading more of it is next to impossible. But wow.......

There should be only 1 sign visible - Collective (type I or II) (cant read) System. Over those are overlapped mega-ships names (this is a bug).

This is a much better image, thanks. I can make out COLLECTIVE clearly now, second line: can't clearly make out the first word but the second word is either CAP or OAP or CLAP. Best I can do, sorry. Anyone better at Photoshop that can tease out more detail here would be greatly appreciated.

"Collective Oversight System". Bleeding database group name with wrong item name leaked, messed indexes and overlapped.
Bug occurs when the target is scanned. Dam.

"Federation Cap Ship" overlapped on top.

I guess FSS shenanigans. Those are names of structures and mega-ships in the system 2 jump before Alaunus.

Another image for the thread ..

Re: science - I did spent a quite foolishly large amount of time trying to scoop the thing up. I don't know, something about the cargo scoop targetting mechanism just made me really sure I could do it if only I could push past the repulsion that occurs when you get close. Anyway, I didn't manage it. Probably just as well ... god knows what it would have done once inside my ship!

Interesting that each type is using different Thargoid weapons.

Idea: use Shutdown Field Neutraliser on QO-9 and Wake Scanner.
