Banking, I want my money to earn interest

I would love to see this game paying interest on the savings that players have built up. Surely there must be some way that we can bank with a number of banks in different systems and make our money work for us? I know that there's an investment thread somewhere on this forum, but I believe that a banking system would be simpler, quicker and safer to implement first. Investments etc, could then follow
 
I think this would be a great idea, but the banks would have to be completely separate from the minor faction they operate under, so you MUST travel to the system you put your money into to retrieve your money. I also think that it should be a small amount per hour, so say, 1% of your total cash per hour while offline, 3% while online.
 
Sorry, but don't agree with this suggestion. And 1% per hour offline? That's 24% a day without even logging in, or 72% if I leave the client on and go play something else?

Don't agree with anything that requires zero input to gain money.

Investments on the other hand could be interesting, like taking a stake in a new cap ship, or building a new orbital near huge mineral reserves and taking a cut of all trades done there.
 
I have no problem with banking. I think the OP was extremely high on his %. A typical savings account pays less than 1%/year and you have to go to the bank to withdrawal it. In many ways banking is a investment. We loan the bank money and they store it in a safe location.... Now if we look into bonds or CD they would have a higher % but you don't get the ability to withdrawal when you want.... you have to wait for them to mature. Either way you are limiting access to your money and they give you a % return....


A 1 million dollar in a savings account earning 1%/year would make approximately 10,000 credits/year or roughly 27 credits a day.
A similar investment in a 5% CD (even if you have it mature after ONLY 30 days) still would be 50,000 credits/year or 137credits a day.

Needless to say if someone wants to effectively lose a million credits (temporarily) and the return was rooted in reality (not 1%/hour) I have no problem with zero input to gain money.... Needless to say you can make a lot more cash trading but there is a risk involved there (similarly with investments) that ends up with: The higher the risks involved the higher the potential gain. In many ways that is the allure of smuggling or trafficking in illegal/stolen goods.
 
This would also be something that could assist players like myself, who have little time to play but manage fairly decent profits when we do. I like this idea.

Just figure out a more realistic interest percentage. Even I agree that's ludicrous. Given that it's a game and timescale doesn't necessarily have to match real life, perhaps something in the neighborhood of .01% per day. Not absurd but not so firmly planted in reality that it's pointless in a game that may or may not be around in five years time.
