Baron to cutter...how long?

Ok so i get that donation missions and classified data missions are probably the best and easiest to stack for rank progression but is there anything else i should know before making the "final push"?

A buddy had said i probably have about 20 more hours of grinding to go. Is that accurate? Because thats alot :(

My luck was a bit terrible with RNG for missions, but it took me about a week and a half to go from rank 3 to 12 for the cutter, I played a few hours a day during the week and two weekends worth in time. You may have better luck with RNGesus

Depends on where you are and how lucky you are with finding Charity missions. They give an insane amount of Rep to rank you up, but only a few places have a ton of them at once and even then they seem to be getting dryer and dryer lately.

A couple of hours: but then I lost it, as I didn't have the re-buy. Lucky I had a sidewinder to fall back on.

Ouch.

It's going to take you long enough that you shouldn't try to get there in one straight grind. Pace yourself. It's really easy to focus on Cutter/Corvette and miss enjoying the rest of the work Frontier put into this game. Grinding that hard can suck the life out of you. What other ships do you have?

I have flown every thing from a hauler to a t9. A sidewinder to an anaconda. I have a little more than 500 hours logged. Right now i own a dback scout an asp explorer, fdl and a conda. I just have the itch for something new and shiny

Oh...my bad.
It's going to take some grinding. I use Fehu, long-range Courier missions myself. The AspE is perfect for it, it's what I use. Stacking those non-stop, long-range deliveries really bump up your Rep. I also take a spare 32t and 8t Fuel Tank, ADS and DSS, 76t cargo space. There are Shadow Deliveries as well.

Aww sorry if it came off rude. I might have some time on the game but i still make dumb decisions. It was just last week i had to get rescued by the fuel rats...i was like 2 jumps from kremainn. Not even exploring or doing something noble, just being dumb and forgetful lol.

But i appreciate the advice. Ill definitely try those places and your loadout!

700 hours in game, only 500mill total assets.

Imma long long way from a cutter.

Im planning to buy me a cutter next summer. Cus, then there will be even bigger more expensive end game ships I can work my way to..

Sitting on 90 m and I'm a Marquis in the Empire. Wonder how long it would take me to get to a Cutter myself... I haven't done BB missions in a while, and I certainly haven't been trying to grind my rank.

Rank isn't the issue when I did it, it's just a slow grind, the real grind is maxing that fat whale out, takes over a billion credits.

thats the real truth. You can A Spec almost every other ship in the game minus the Corvette and have money left over for what the Cutter's going to cost!

Getting the Cutter open's up the real grind!!!!

I was lucky in that I gained all the rank for both navies during GPP. I didn't even notice as back then, there was no purpose to the ranking. We didn't have rank locked ships. Consequently, when the rank requirement dropped for all the Federal and Imperial ships, I only had 2 ranks to play out for the Cutter...already was a rear Admiral in the Fed navy so I got to play in a Corvette as soon as it appeared.

Since the last patch (1.5.04) and the temporary fix for the missions, I've been doing the rounds of the BB's in the Python... just legal trade stuff mainly, no shadow delivery or fail if scanned data ones.

In 2 days, I've advanced from 4% Rear Admiral to 39%... just flying around all over the place dropping cargo without even noticing the advancement. I suppose it helps that I already have the Cutter and Corvette plus Elite trade rank, nothing left to grind for... but it sure has been fun going back to the way I started playing the game as opposed to grinding for rank, credits or status.

I've really enjoyed ED over the last few days...sold my Cutter since I'll never grind the slave routes again and bought an Anaconda, Cobra and an Asp for less than the Cutter was worth on it's own...and still had spare change after fitting them for purpose.

I sold the Corvette a few weeks ago since it served no useful purpose that my FDL couldn't already do for much less cash. I don't really pew pew unless I'm bored and mostly PvE.

The Corvette was fun... but utterly pointless for someone who wants to play the game, not just kill anything with a hollow rectangle on the radar.

Awesomeness! Another BB player is born. I've bin playing the BB since the beginning. Love the politics behind it. I try to focus mainly on one minor in a system till I want to move on. Its amazingly cool to watch it progres.

In 1.6, it will even be more awesome.

I agree! When I started the game last November I adopted Jarnuekenk as my home system - it was an lawless anarchy. I played the BGS with my brother, running missions for the local independent faction and we flipped the system, booting out the criminal faction that owned the main starport! The BGS has a lot of potential, it's great to be able to influence the political balance of systems

I did mostly combat missions because that is what a dev said was one of the best ways to gain rank in the military.
I got the rank a month ago I think, or perhaps 2 months.
Today I bought a Cutter (at a 15% discount) and outfitted it as an armed trader with beam turrets.
She can handle beams well and pirates melt like snowflakes.

Personally I refused to get fixated on the ranking as there is no better way to burn out than playing the game that way.
I also want to get the rank for a Federal Corvette. I have two ranks to go. Might take me a few months, or even an entire year.
I will see how it goes. I will concentrate on having fun while getting there.
I currently don't have the cash to buy and outfit a Corvette anyway and I certainly don't want to sell my Vulture, Python, FDL or Anaconda.
