Barriers below floor level

Ive just realised reading some other points that you can use glass barriers to hold water behind. So in theory instead of having my visitors look down on the crocs in the water through a grade 3 fence with glass window at floor level, I could create a glass barrier and have the path drop down so they can see the crocs at eye level on -1 level. Is this hard to do? I guess the top will need to stay level, with the glass sections extending lower to accommodate the dip in the path. Have others done this?

Yep! It's not hard to do but in my experience it takes a bit of trial and error with to get the smooth terrain changes that the path wants to track along nicely (unless you just want to make a big hole and make stairs downwards). You can use the toggle on the path tool to make sure the top of the barrier stays level during your dip. Make sure to get your barrier and path set up properly before adding the water as it's finicky about changing path tiles anywhere near water.

It's definitely doable! I'm sure our talented community creators can give a better tutorial but I've found it works best when you make the terrain and set the barriers up around that (Allowing a glass portion in an area you want water) and add the water later.

Go into settings, gameplay, find the option that disables terrain collision with barriers.

If you're starting your habitat from scratch it's easier to design the water area first, then create the flat for the path. Then place the glass barrier and then connect the rest of the barriers.

When placing the glass barrier, be sure to select the option in the bottom right that allows the barrier to keep an even top but follow the terrain at the bottom.

If you're doing this to an existing habitat then remove any paths from where you want to create the water viewing area since there's no option to disable collision with paths. Then create your water area and flat for the viewing area and then just change the barrier to glass.

I wish there was a listing of these kinds of video tutorials somewhere. They are much more helpful than the Career Mode for learning the game.

Just go to You Tube and enter Planet Zoo tutorials in the search bar. Or just browse the many videos of people playing Planet Zoo and constructing the most incredible buildings and habitats.

One person who has lots of very helpful tutorials is Paulsley. If you search for ”Planet Zoo Paulsley”, you will find at least some of them. Click on his name to go to his playlists.

Oh I know! I love Paulsley's and Geekism's tutorials. But many people who are struggling may not. I figure if Frontier, as well as many other game companies, are going to depend on YouTubers to teach people how to use their games they should at least credit them and make some of the most popular/important tutorials easier to find. I'm old, I still remember getting a little instruction booklet with a new game that came in a shiny box sans bugs :)

I did this with my gharials without too much trouble. I did, however, encounter two things that I don't see in this thread. First, when building the barrier, set the barrier piece lengths to something fairly long. Otherwise, you end up with lots of dividers which interfere with the effect of the long, uninterrupted underwater window that everyone who does this wants. Second, if you put the path far enough down, it actually won't let you use glass for that section of the barrier. I had to switch to concrete with windows. I think this is because of the weight of the water pressing against the barrier.

I think you are not comprehending the scope of the game, its almost an unlimited world builder. An ingame tutorial just isnt going to be able to predict what hundreds of thousands of imaginative people will come up with and having said that I wouldnt want it to, you would spend a year going through it! Peoples videos and creations are often shown on official channels as well as Steam and the entire community can share blueprints that is arguably even more powerful and is part of the game! Shame they can't re-implement the terrain as blueprint plan, but they tried. From your other comment I imagine you will remember the days when we had to wait for the monthly magazine to distribute ideas... and fixes ;)
