I must have a go at this , I decided. Now I have read missiles are no good anymore, so it would be muti's /Cannons , long range, fair bit of shields and armor + srv and fighter, possibly a fighter too ?
Can you use gimbals? or is it direct ?
I was thinking med- sec, possibly in a 2 Wing at times.
Is this a completely hopeless setup ?
I might ad well ask instead of making ALL the mistakes ALL the time :)

You can't target a Skimmer from your ship so sticking with Fixed weapons is best in my opinion unless you are in a large ship and need the turrets. Its targeting sensors aren't that great at fine detail. My Imperial Eagle has a Medium Dumbfire Launcher and two Burst Lasers (going to hunt small game with it). When it comes to areas that seem to be vacant completely, I just run my SRV through the area to wake everything up and just bomb the area with missile fire once I'm back in my ship. Also... Mines are affected by gravity and will detonate when near a Skimmer. I lost my Eagle Mk 2 that way after slamming into the ground and followed up with a low altitude bombing run.

It is possible to get a target lock on skimmers, but its also possible to get pounded good in the process of trying to get that close.
Also, ramming them, especially Goliath, is extremely unpleasant - they go kind of EMP when hit, and it's not much fun.

Mine bombing is amusing once or twice, but my PA's have never let me down.

Though I'm still keen on parking and strolling in with an SRV instead. SRV works wonders against anything except a Goliath, and the SRV CAN take a Goliath, if you've got a couple hours.

I've been planning on rigging my Asp Scout (yes, I know) for a ground attack role, using paired MCs and Dumbfires but maybe I'll swap the MCs for PAs.

Just need to finishing scanning local Galnet in all the Bubble systems first...
