Base building on asteroids, walking on ships and planets, planets with atmosphere and wildlife - how close are we ?

This is what I've been wondering for long now, Since they decided to extend Horizons to 2017 I've been wondering when next season will begin and when we will get those great features added to the game, features such was walking on ships and planets, planets with atmosphere and player bases , when are we gonna get all of that? Is it in the plan ? No Man's Sky recently added base building on any planet of the game universe, I know FD said players bases will be limited to asteroids in ED , can we hope they will change their mind and let us build bases wherever we want ? Can we please have a meaningful crafting system developed ? Right now all we can craft are temporary upgrades for the ships and ammo, I would like to be able to craft base modules, ships and base interiors as well like in any survival game. Right now ED doesn't have any of that, are we gonna get that kind of stuff in the future? It would be great if gameplay varied beyond the shooter in space or the trading thing, maybe get rid of engineers and develop a crafting system with realism and consistency in mind, that's why we need to be able to build bases and stations on planets and space, right now engineers is just an arcadish minigame that only adds grind, it is the reason why I'm no longer upgrading my ships , too much grind and aimlessly looking for materials just for pvp LOL, I think engineers should be completely replaced by a good crafting system we can use to make actual objects we can use ingame on sell to other players, that's also why there should be a galactic terminal allowing us to sell and buy from other players and create a real market players can compete in.

There are tons of features FD could add to the game, I don't understand why they are pointing at arcadish features like Engineers, Grindy Powerplay etc... Come on ! FD made an awesome job in creating a full realistic galaxy, I can't believe the rest of the game will not be at the same level of quality, I really hope Engineers is just a place holder for some real crafting system and Powerplay a placeholder for some real player run politics and economy ...

Said this ... Please FD take this as an encouragement to take the best possible path, turn the game into the game of our dreams, you can see how good the market in EVE ONLINE universe is, you should aim at that, as for the base building and crafting system you can check games like Ark, Osiris new damn, subnautica, I can tell you for sure that's the best path for the game, make things realistic and consistent, players will be happy about it... Other than this, great job for the galaxy you created, the ships are great and handle well, combat is good too but now it's time to get even more serious about features and add what I suggested above.

In order:

1. Walking on ships (fairly soon)
2. Walking on planets (not anytime soon but before #3)
3. Walking in planets with atmosphere & wildlife (much later!)
4. Base building (Long time away!)

So a few points about walking around. Either it is go to come as a complete update or several. As EVA/floating around our ship is going to require different ways of locomotion than simply walking around outside of our ship. Then there needs to be reasons for moving. So gameplay needs to be added. Now right now there seems to be assets being added to the game that seem to point towards walking around. But that could mean it's coming in 1 or 2 seasons.

I would really like that #4 would be considered long before the others... You don't need legs to build and use a base. And it would be a great game mechanic.

No, u need legs, I want to be able to build the interior too, crafting stations, maybe a bedroom, a meeting room, a greenhouse etc...

Can't wait when Elite is like ark in space. Just think raiding a base with a Python only for a fleet of AI controlled sidewinders to surround you... Be right back I have to make a few emails.

Don't believe the lies. We will probably never get those things due to the continuing failures of ED. Over promised. And under delivered. That is the sad story of this game.

The thing I want more than anything is being able to land on planets with atmospheres. I don't need to get out of the SRV, I don't need animals, I don't need cities (outposts are fine), I just want to experience the transition from orbital to suborbital through an atmosphere requiring a different flight model than zero-atmosphere (why else would our ships have wings??? They're not very aerodynamic but we have vertical thrusters to compensate! Just like RL VTOL aircraft!). And once through the atmosphere, I want to be able to look up at blue or red or purple sky instead of the starfield. Just like lots of us fly into nebulae for the express purpose of simply seeing a dramatically different skybox.

If a planet has a large human population and Frontier doesn't have the resources (time, processing power, or otherwise) to create the cities that would naturally go with, then fine, create some excuse for why we can't land there (galactic regulation is out of control, man, you can only get here in a shuttle from a station flown by one of OUR pilots) but I would still really like to at least visit earth-like worlds that don't necessarily have populations but do have atmospheres and do SRV missions with sky instead of stars overhead. The cities and other resource hogs can come later.

No base building, that is not what Elite Dangerous is about. You are a pilot not a construction engineer and as such FD should be making the game a deeper richer experience for pilots, not wasting developing resourses on the what is rapidly becoming the the same old boring thing that is plaguing modern games.

For example, I would love frontier to spend time developing the lore within the game, so you actually feel like you are in the Elite Universe, not some generic game, with generic features and shallow generic game play.

The rest of the stuff is sound though, walking around would be great, having dog fights around floating stations in the upper atmosphere of gas giants....

I digress. Elite is a pilot simulator, you don't need legs for anything in this game. In fact, with the huge distances involved in everything we do, legs seem pretty pointless to me. Even walking the length of a Cutter takes quite a bit... I'm seeing all those threads pointing at the need of legs... what for? Exploring? It's quite time consuming on the SRV, let alone walking... Interiors? bases are huge, stations are huge, ships are huge, you would spend a lot of time doing... what? I fail to see the need for legs because there are no mechanics available for them. Here and now, Elite is a piloting game, you are a ship.

...And tied to piloting a ship, constructing own bases meaningful for that gameplay is perfectly viable. It's even desirable, as there are thousands of millions of unspent credits in the hands of many federation pilots. And you don't need to leave the ship at all.
