Base building on asteroids, walking on ships and planets, planets with atmosphere and wildlife - how close are we ?

In order:

1. Walking on ships (fairly soon)
2. Walking on planets (not anytime soon but before #3)
3. Walking in planets with atmosphere & wildlife (much later!)
4. Base building (Long time away!)

I agree with that evaluation, the problem is to define "Soon" "Fairly soon" and a "long time away"

Both are correct, the chairs are huge from their point of view

I digress. Elite is a pilot simulator, you don't need legs for anything in this game.

Nope, Elite is a space simulator. Braben himself has said that he sees walking around as a future part of the game.
It's right that you don't need legs for anything in this game. That's one of the reasons the game is so shallow and we get travesties like telepresence.

Sandy in the 2.3 beta Q&A went out of his way to clearly state that space legs were a long way off, and he clearly said if we ever get them. To paraphrase him - walking is part of the vision, but not on any current plans.

I think we'll be seeing different types of planetary landing long before we get to walk about.

For my vote, I'd not be bothered if walking didn't ever get done. As already noted, on foot, everywhere is going to be a long way away.

For full size planets with diverse alien flora and fauna, as well as continent spanning hyperfuturistic cities: Never.

Not possible with todays technology, and certainly not by FD. Maybe in Elite 5, coming 2022 (in alpha).

Don't believe the lies. We will probably never get those things due to the continuing failures of ED. Over promised. And under delivered. That is the sad story of this game.

Well i dont think there are any lies also i dont believe FD are failing to deliver, also if its such a sad story why do you keep playing? i see many of your comments on this forum and they are mainly negative and unconstructive.

please try and be positive or constructive fed up of these negative comments on here.

from my stand point

I think there is something big coming that we dont expect just like horizons was big! just a matter of a little more time they are definitely working on things to say other wise is just plane wrong some of friends are game designers and i can tell you its full time job!

In full agreement with this guy..

Well, as per my chair post, I'd say it depends. Is it possible by todays technology? sure it is, can FDEV do it? don't know, maybe not, but IF they can, they elevated into a different league.

I would really like that #4 would be considered long before the others... You don't need legs to build and use a base. And it would be a great game mechanic.

yes but it would require a proper economy and better faction gameplay as ell to be really cool. And after all that time FD didn't care anymore about this system at all, so I doubt tis is what we gonna get.

but it would be great when expansion fo the bubble would not be CG drven, and isntead be done with proper given tools for palyers ingame based on the faction BGS.

Simulator lol!
Simulation in some aspects yes, even weak!

Non-sequitur. Plenty of shallow games where there are activities that need legs, and telepresence is used so it's immediate and easy to drop in/out of multicrew NOT because of lack of legs. Even with legs they'd still want you to be able to drop in/out of multicrew (as that's what it's intended as) so it'd still be telepresence.
