Base game, horizons and odyssey.

You bought the base game.

To play horizons, you then have to buy that seperate.

Can you buy and play odyssey without first buying horizons?

Will it enable planet landings and engineering without horizons?

Or will it turn horizon into a cumpulsory purchase to use odyssey?

Just something i was wondering whilst reading another thread...

Officially, according to Steam ....

Wouldnt make sense to own base game and be able to buy odyssey but not require horizons. Probably will be combined versions at different price points for all levels.

But we'll just need to wait and see. I'm not sure there's many people intending buying odyssey who dont own horizons.

Odyssey will be adding space legs, for which you'd need to land on planets. Can't land on planets without Horizons so I'm guessing you'd need to have Horizons.
On board your ship, look down and see an added menu tab "Descend to Planet Surface"

Maybe they're adding Horizons to the base game, as Odyssey launch.
Kind of like what World of Warcraft does at each new expansion.

I've been wondering about this. At the moment, if we start the base game we can't do any Horizons stuff, as our ships don't have the landing module. If we start Horizons we can do everything in the base game plus everything in Horizons. Presumably Odyssey will be another menu option, so in Odyssey mode we can do everything in the base game plus everything in Odyssey.
But then what happens to the Horizons stuff if we are in Odyssey? We are not in Horizons mode so we don't have the landing module. But it would be dumb to be able to land on planets with atmosphere, but not planets without atmosphere.
Maybe the Odyssey landing module includes the Horizons landing module? Or the Horizons module is expanded to include the new planets?
But then what happens if I don't have Horizons?

My brain hurts...

We don't know yet where we can walk with space legs apart from on planets.

If we are also able to walk around our ships and stations maybe Odyssey without Horizons will allow you to use space legs in stations and on ships but not on the surface of planets. Frontier could then add a bundled Odyssey/Horizons option for purchase.

It appears to imply that Horizons will be merged with the base game when Odyssey is released - this would also have the benefit that all players have access to ship engineering and would be more enticement for the current base owners to get Odyssey. All supposition of course.

My read is base game, base game + horizons = old planet tech and VR (feature locked). base game + Odyssey = new planet tech 2D. Basically Odyssey is planet tech V2, Horizons planet tech v1.

Horizons allows you to land on some airless planets. Odyssey will allow you to land on some atmospheric planets, and walk on them. Chances are Odyssey will also interact with Horizons in a manner that lets you walk on the same airless planets you can land on, if you have Horizons, although I don't know that this has been confirmed. It does not logically follow that if you buy Odyssey without Horizons you should have access to airless planetary landings, although there might be marketting reasons to make it so.

Knowing FDev, Spacelegs will be on stations only. For Spacelegs on planets you will need Horizons.

Horizons doesn't cover "planets". It covers airless planets. And knowing FDev? What does that even mean?

You need horizons to land on horizons planets. If you buy Odyssey without horizons you'll be able to land on Odyssey planets but not the planets in horizons.

That's the way I see it.

Yeah from what we know so far, they're setting up so that they don't have to give away horizons as well if they don't want to. Aren't they smart.

It's going to make even more of a mess of the mission boards (If anyone is still doing them).

We already have horizons only missions. They will need to add odyssey only ones as well, even if they don't involves the spaceleg part, it won't make much sense in the game world.

I would guess you just can't disembark from the ship?
