Basic combat anaconda... Or Python to break up the trade monotony?

Just curious on anyone's thoughts on their experiences with basic combat anaconda loadouts and costs. I've got a pretty good trading conda at the moment and about 280m in assets. I'm boring of the trade grind and am thinking of either: a) saving up for a decent 150m combat python; or b) kitting out my conda for basic combat (PVE). having trouble deciding which route to take.

Looking for commanders experiences, but opinions are welcome. I know a fully kitted conda could run in the 600-700m credit range, but I'm not looking for that. Rather, looking to break up the trading grind with some pew pew from time to time in RESs or conflict zones, and was wondering if I should even try that in a conda or buy a combat dedicated Python (or FDL for that matter)?

Any thoughts welcome, even if just to warn me away from one thing to another.

Thanks all!

I had an FdL but just went to a Python again, for PVE I am outfitted at about 136 million, still grinding for the A7 power plant but even with A6 I melt pretty much anything I run across in a minute or two. I kept a trading Anaconda which is worth about 180 million. I tried the Anaconda for combat and it was fun but I couldn't afford enough shielding to make it really viable just yet. I like having a combat and mission craft which the Python is perfect for.

I have flown a battle anaconda and python and i much prefer the python. The anaconda is just a little too slow to take advantage of that extra firepower, Plus all that extra risk of the much higher rebuy. All just my own opinion of course.

I would throw money into the conda 8 hardpoints hurt no matter what you're running. More than enough for PVE, you could always buy and deck out a vulture for combat for half the price of a stock Python.

Yeah, I haven't really used the conda in combat, but every once in a while when I'm interdicted by a cobra or (lol) an eagle, it is very fun to turn four miniguns and two burst lasers on them and watch them melt.

But that's just one on one. If I take her into real combat, I'm gonna have to out on shields and upgrade power plant, SCBs, boosters, KWS and weps. That's all gonna cost.

Plus, there's the concern about rebuy... But Braben (or maybe it was the newsletter...) seemed to insinuate that insurance costs will be decreased inpower play, which might make the conda even more attractive.

All good points, especially the speed thing. But the Python isn't much quicker, in fairness to the conda.

And the insurance will likely be changed in 1.3 for the better, so there's that too.

I would fit some shield boosters and cell banks on the Anaconda, all weapons I like, A Power Distributor, rest depending on money. Go into combat zones as they don't run away and you have a constant stream of targets spawning right next to you. Profits are not as high as RES but on the other hand you have almost no travel times to target.

well if you're just looking for a fight when you get interdicted I run 3 C3 beams and multi cannons with a 4A shield and all A class shield boosters. I build it heavy enough to make the route in 1 jump. Got interdicted by an elite Python and a cobra and killed them both before they fired a shot. Those boosters make a pretty strong shield out of the 4A shield generator. Just under 970 MJs of shield strength. To put that in perspective a python with an A6 shield and 4 class A boosters only has a shield strength of 726 MJs.
Yeah that's right a trade conda has better shields than the strongest Python shields you could possibly equip.

Holy crap, I never ran the numbers on that. Wow! On a4 shields? Wow.

General q on shield boosters then: how long do they take to recharge? Like half hour or smth crazy like that?

I too have experience about both. Few days ago I made the decision about what you are now pondering. I had almost A grade Anaconda (with B powerplant) and got bored with it. So I sold the conda to try out fully A-class FDL. In my opinion, or experience, the FDL was nice for combat, but thats about it. Then I sold the FDL and bought a completely A-class Python with military class composites. I found the Python to suit my playstyle most. I like to be capable of doing everything with one ship so the Python is my way to go. I prefer it greatly over conda and FDL.

Hi Cmdr i'v been running this build for the last few days and I've got to say i'm absolutely loving it in RES sites it can take out "expert" condas in one pass while carrying 432t ;-)
Gimbled beams primary fire
Cannon secondary for the bigger ships
Average 3mil an hour not as good as trading but much more fun
also the the shield recharge is about 3-4 mins for me but it shouldn't really go down in PVE if it does you can always jump out
