General / Off-Topic Basic living over a thousand years into the future?

Was going to post again but looks like this thread has been sent away.

- I'm not entirely sure why a discussion about the elite universe is considered off topic and nothing to do with the elite section of the forums. Would the person who moved mind commenting?

Was it in general originally? (i usually click through the new posts link so don't see where the threads are necessarily).

Prob just tidied up from General to off-topic if so...

I could be wrong, but I get the impression the vast majority of forum users are on the forum for Elite and so stick to the Elite section. So a thread about the Elite universe moved outside of the Elite section is effectively over.

Hi Mars,

I didn't move the thread myself but after reviewing it the only Elite reference I can see is in your 1st post.

And as you posted you wondered what life in 1000 years would actually be like in real life. I agree with my fellow mods decision that it should be here in the off topic section, somewhere that we like to encourage forum members to chat about anything they like (within reason.;))

how do we go about separating the "bad" from the "good" and should we even do so?

It is all speculation of course and in my case wishful thinking :). Personally I would love to get rid of some vulnerable, bothersome emotional aspects of myself. That is why I, given the opportunity, would without thinking twice choose to go full cyborg.
Whether it is truly feasible I have no idea. I just feel it might be in the far future.
And whether we should is an interesting philosophical question I can only answer for myself: I know I would if I could.

Our urge to change and dominate in order to survive is what drives everything we do. It's the basis of curiosity and invention - that and protection of the self/family/group with which we identify. It may even be related to the concept of self-continuance and the urge to procreate. Take out what may look like undesirable emotions and there is a risk of removing the very impulses that could send us to the stars.

To be frank I do not really care if our species procreates or not. I personally certainly will not. And if there is no impulse at all to go to the stars then we will not feel sorry about that either. So it does not matter.
I do not consider going to the stars a necessity. In fact it might be much better for the universe if humans were contained to this one single planet. We behave like cockroaches who have mastered technology. (My apologies to the cockroaches).

I use the 'New Posts' function mostly, so I see all posts from every section.
