Basic Multi-Crew Summary

Hmm. I don't know about the Keelback only having a single seat. Logically the SLF pilot must have been sat *somewhere* on the ship as they died when it did - So there is more-than-one seat, for sure. Even if one isn't visible from the commander's chair. Given that multicrew uses holographic avatars, as opposed to actual presence, I don't see that it's necessary to have the gunner represented on the ship at all if there isn't space. Do they really need a seat?.

What I'd love is to be able to pilot the Ship whilst a colleague steers the SRV.

I'm with you 100% but this list disagrees with us....

The active NPC pilot sits in the hangar apparently (tried to find the FD source for this but unable to). So perhaps a human crew member could sit there if there is no NPC crew hired. I have a feeling that FD will want us to see the holograms of our fellow players, in which case I would question if we will actually be able to use the "downstairs" seat on the Asps.

You hurt my feelings when you say that about my list. I'm doing the best I can with it.....:(
:D

Try harder!

But really... I mean the reality of it is dissapointing.

It's kinda like how ship launched fighters were for about two ships (I know, it's more, but whatever) it's kind of lame.

I can't believe I didn't see this. :p

I vote that your thread gets stickied. You did a good job, better than mine.

I thought I remembered reading somewhere that the Keelback was supposed to be a good starting ship for multicrew. And this last year. Wish I could remember where, though. But yeah, it seems very unrealistic that the Keelback wouldn't support multicrew simply because it already has a spot for an NPC to sit.

While I can't wait to set my Anaconda up for this.. I really want to get an Adder, set up for Piracy with a Pirate skin, find an instance with 3 Anacondas or something then advertise myself as a Pirate. I'll get some guy in my ship give him 10 seconds to realise the situation then just send a message, "Let's do this..."

I'll be happy to be wrong about it and update the list, but that WIKI is the only solid info we have for now. I guess the people that are in the BETA will have to give us some feedback.

I'm looking at you you! You MASTER BETAS!

Yes. Yes I went there.

Any response to possibly more roles in multi crew in the future? Because if this is it, that is a huge letdown for me personally. Just a gunner = multi crew is a slap in the face. I don't consider pilot fighters multi crew, in my opinion. Co pilot? Engineering? Science? Navigation? Logistics?

Fighter pilot as "multicrew" member is hilarious. Your job as a crew member onboard my ship is to go to the hangar bay, get into that little ship, and Get. Off. My. Ship.

Why on earth has Frontier opted to make the great content and gameplay they've created so obtusely inaccessible?

For me, the OP's list highlights the frustratingly short-sighted design decision to limit access to the multicrew functionality.

There's no practical reason why lower tier SLF-capable ships like the Keelback and the Federal Gunship shouldn't be able to accommodate three or four crew. As stated elsewhere, NPC fighter pilots occupy a berth in the hangar bay and human players are supposedly only holograms anyway. The physical presence of a chair on the flight deck is a ridiculous reason for the limitation.

I'd managed to convince several friends to return to playing Elite on the strength of 2.3's promise of a co-op gaming experience. However, none of us are in a position to be able to access ships that allow full multicrew content as it's been reserved for the minority of core players who can afford high-end ships. Getting my friends to continue playing is going to be increasingly difficult.

I would be grateful and surprised if anyone can provide a sensible explanation for this choice.

TBH even before the announcement that everything was just going to be done by remote control anyway, I would have expected there to be at least 2 person crew on every ship, because even the smallest ships in the game are huge and could easily fit a bunch of people onboard. Now that it's established that nobody is even onboard in the first place, it's insanely stupid to have a restriction which essentially amounts to, "hey I'd love to invite you to Skype with me on my ship, but you know - there aren't enough *chairs* . . . "
