Basics of Elite: Dangerous #3 Why do anything?

This issue of Basics of Elite: Dangerous was supposed to be about general ship control in supercruise, approaching stations and surface bases.

I've changed my mind though. I decided I don't care one way or the other. The ones that want information can find it one way or the other, as I and many others did, through many excellent resources around the internet. The people who would read already know what I was about to tell anyway. They know better even.

The state of dangerous discussions showed me that very few people actually care about how they improve themselves but only seek validation through words of others and how much shinys they have in game. They don't feel the need to keep their attitude in check, don't feel the need to be decent about how they conduct themselves and they have no idea how to respectfully express an opinion, even if it's one of disappointment.

I don't know what purpose insulting the devs and other players who wish to see the community thrive and help each other will serve. In the short term, it obviously does little more than aggravate individuals who chose to visit the forums, evidenced by the fact that developers aren't in damage control mode, sweeping through the forums. They obviously have bigger fish to fry, as they are actually working on the game and improving the quality of life for their paying clients instead of doing PR runs to calm the masses down.

I've decided my energy is more valuable than this and I'm going stop visiting the dangerous discussions forum. I'll limit my visits to relevant sub forums to follow news from development and that's it.

I know not many will care nor should they. Just enjoy the game and the internet however you like, why put any mind into what some faceless bloke says on a free rambling platform? I just wanted to get this off my chest because it seemed like a good idea after everyone getting their troubles out of their chests.

Fly safe, or however the hell you want.

Kornelius for one is trying really hard and even saying so. And I can at least respect that awareness even if the result still doesn't sound respectful.

It vents frustration. That may be a bit selfish and one would hope for other, better ways to do it. But I guess that's not within reach for everyone.

I applaud the effort taken by members of the community to try and help other CMDR's who get frustrated.

When I first started to play I would spend hours reading the forums learning new things. I didn't even have to ask a question, everything I wanted to know was right in front of me but I wanted to learn it. I fear that for some people the level of frustration may have gotten to the point of not wanting to learn and would sooner throw there toys out of the cot.

In response to Cynaqq'a OP all I can say is:

Thank-you for taking the time to try and help other CMDR's
Your efforts, and those of the other CMDR's
Who spend their personal time doing so are
Greatly Appreciated.

That's a shame - I really appreciate seeing hints and tips from folk with more time to play and a better grasp of things.

I think the current state of the board is indicative of how far off the mark the Engineers update is and how low people's patience has been worn down. I think part of that is there's growing concern about a trend with the design and implementation of new content (PowerPlay, CQC, Engineers) that doesn't bode well. You could easily ignore CQC and PowerPlay, but you cannot ignore Engineers if you want to be competitive in combat, and the way it's been implemented leaves a lot of room for improvement.

I hope they can sort it out and get folk back onside.

Fully agree with you here. I've started ignoring people who post insulting or clickbait thread titles and OP's. I'm up to 40 already that will never directly get any advice or help from me again, I only wish new threads by these people would no longer appear so I can ignore them properly instead of opening up a thread with an OP missing.
Or alternatively that I could hide my responses from anyone on my ignore list so they have to search longer if/when they need something.

Anyway I'm the same as you that I enjoy a good argument/debate about a valid topic but the DD forum currently (and arguably the Eng/Horizons boards too) are a mess of people that make me think reddit users are friendly and reasonable :p

Good luck Cynaqq and i hope to see you about the other forums sometime :)
