Bass shakers, Rift and HOTAS = OMFG!!!

So I've been using 4x Aura Bass shakers on my sim rig for a while (2 in front nd 2 in back) with some software called Simvibe. Basically, it takes specific output from certain racing games on a dedicated 2nd sound card(not just low sound waves) and translates them into vibrations of the car like shifter, engine, bumps etc. Works great and really added to my racing.

I know that no such software exists for Elite but I figured I'd try to just hook up the bass shaker amp to the sub output of my main soundcard and see if it would be decent in game. It is unbelievable! The game is already visually making me think I am there with the rift and X52 but now I really FEEL like it. You can feel the boosters kick you in the , the shudder of the craft as you enter and exit a jump, the clanging and banging of the ship elevator when you go below in port. Just wow is all I can say. If you have the chance to get a couple Auras or similar and cheap amp (I use a $20 Lepai) DO IT! I simply can't explain the depth this adds to the game.

I've got a Buttkicker sitting here waiting to go into my build. Glad to hear it's likely to have been worth the investment :D

Sounds awesome! I actually talked about such a setup with my housemate just yesterday and how great it would be to have all that =)

Yeah, if you are on a budget like me and don't want to drop a few hundred on a butkicker setup, you can get the stuff I did and DIY. I have 4x Aura basss shaker but if you aren't doing a simvibe chassis mode racing rig and just want this for Elite, you can get away with one or two Auras on your seat only. No need for the fronts especially at a desk. The Auras are only about $45 each or cheaper if you scout ebay. I'm driving them with a mini Lepai amp which are around $20. The Auras can take way more power but honestly I turned the volume down on it because it was ridiculous as it is now. I recommend a set of in line 100hz low pass crossovers as well or the Auras will try to play ALL the sound and it's noisy and bad for the drivers/amp. Got a set of those for $30 on ebay too. So for around $100 depending on how you go about it, you can be set up fairly well. Have fun!

On another note, I just finished playing a bit more tonight and was amazed how the whole thing shakes and shudders when you cruise by a planet and feel the gravity take effect on the ship. It's very convincing!

very cool video - I love DIY. Wish I had seen that before I bought the buttkicker gamer (used fom ebay). Oh well... anyway, I just installed the buttkicker today and after quite a bit of time getting it set up correctly, I'm very happy with the results.

yeah, for me the in game sounds are really not very good for tactile feedback compared to a proper simvibe profile.
And, I would never buy buttkicker branded transducers.
I use these bass shakers (transducers): http://www.conrad-electronic.co.uk/...mm-200-W-Sinustec-ST--100-4-?ref=searchDetail
and an 8 channel home AV amp ( Yamaha htr-5640rts).
much cheaper and a very easily added to. And if your not using simvibe (cant be used in elite currently) then you can use your second sound card and/or your AMP to remove all the treble etc and only filter through the bass, which will help stop regular sound being played through your transducers.
