Newcomer / Intro Batter up!!

Hello:
Point form.

New to game, for two weeks I've been trying to get a handle on this behemoth. I scan, with the starting scanner. Nothing, but Nothing found, to objects found, what do I do with that information is it stored somewhere?
I've got a good grip on docking and piloting the Sidewinder. Its basically all I can manage to do. I get a mission to go to an area for black boxes. I go to the only place they give to look. Spent ages searching for b.boxes.
Do I need a scoop of some kind with missions like this?

I just can't seem to get my career of the ground.

I like the idea of exploration in this huge universe. How do I get to the place where I can start exploring?(what do I need for exploring)?

I've played sim type games for eon's. This is a good sim, you can feell there is so much more to see and do. I wish I could get momentum going and feel like Im progressing.

It's stored in your Galactic Map, and you can sell the scanned information at an Universal Cartographics office.

Cargo scoop is standard equipment on all ships. Black boxes can be found at Unidentified Signal Sources. Did you notice the "Activity condsidered illegal" line at the bottom of the mission briefing?
You don't have to accept all missions. As a beginner it's best to avoid accepting missions if you aren't certain you know how to complete them.

You are already there. Your starter ship has the minimum required stuff for exploring (if you haven't traded it away). Find the nearest star with a red System Map icon from the Galactic Map and explore.

The basic discovery scanner has a range of 500LS. If there are anstronomical bodies beyond that your scanner won't pick them up. You'll need to invest in an Intermediate Scanner (1000LS range) or better yet, the Advanced Scanner which has an unlimited range and will learn the location of all bodies in your current system, no matter the distance. However that scanner costs in the region of 1.5 million credits so you probably have to play for a bit before you get to those levels.

Good guide for exploration here:

Oh, and get the biggest most expensive fuel scoop you can. Priceless when out in the void when there are no starports.

The first thing I did when I started play was exploring. I sold my cago rack so I could add a fuel scop and just took off for the great unknown..O I had a better power supply and FSD but thats about all. I even sold my 'free" lasers. I wasn't worried about getting blown up, a new Sideinder is free. The FSD and power supply weren't very expensive either.

It was fun, I didn't go all that far, I was like a little kid on the beach. I just went far enough to get my toes wet., abut 110LY round trip.

Somethings you may want to know, Brown Draves are unscoopable.

Same with the small white stars.

Never use yourDiscovery Scanner inside a station. They don't like that, at least not when I did it.

Try to keep at least 50% fuel in your tank. If you run out of fuel, it's time to self destuct.

If you die before you sell your data, you loose your data.

you have to travel at least 20 LY to sell your data.

Have fun.
