Battlefield 2042

I'm still so disappointed with BF5 overall that I'll not bother with this until I hear very solid reviews from people i trust.
That is definitely the way to do it. Don't be fooled by flashy trailers. I am looking forward to seeing the gameplay though on Sunday.

Not going to play it since it requires Origin and is published by EA. I'm still annoyed that they essentially killed off Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2 multiplayer by releasing patches that did nothing but depreciate the non-Origin versions.

That said, some modern silliness aside, it 2042 doesn't look that bad. Finally back to the number of players we had twenty years ago in the Tribes 2 days.

I'll get it for free with EA Play pro so I'll give it a go. I used to be quite keen on the Battlefield series at one time...that kinda finished with BF4 for me.

Didn't play a Battlefield since 2 / 2142. Tried them all when they came to Xbox game pass. Was disappointed with everything past BF Bad Company 2. The engine just feels lack luster. Prefer COD. Sick of fps in general. Vermintide 2 is about all the fps I play these days. Looking forward to the 40k variant.

This trailer was ridiculously dumb.

From this trailer you can clearly see they trying to get as far as possible from the style/tone of BF V, as silly as it is, the fact they they included "jet rpg" scene is brilliant!
But since its all under EA I`m less than excited as I really don't like "life service" games and after disastrous gameplay of the previous title I have very little faith in this one.
Trust me, I miss good old large scale Battlefield 2/3 or Bad Company but everything after those was just bleh.

The switch to the Frostbite engine heralded the move to style over substance. The graphics got prettier, the sound even better, the gameplay arguably worse. That said some of the maps in BF3 and the infantry movement in BF4 (and eventually the "netcode") were definitely highpoints. Thank goodness for the open betas for BF1 and BFV. I realised that I should save my money and nothing I've seen or read since has made me question that decision.

The fact that so many people still play BF4 (and to a lesser degree BF3) would strongly suggest that DICE lost touch with a large part of their playerbase. The "Battlefield moments" in the trailer seem to be trying to reengage with that demographic and BF6 appears to be being pitched as the spiritual successor to BF3 / BF4. I can't believe they are bringing back Levolution though; when did that ever make the gameplay better in BF4?

It will take more than a trailer to convince me.
