Battlefield V or Anthem?

Well I built my first beast the other day, rocking max settings on Resident Evil 2 Biohazard on a 1440p Predator curve.

When I purchases my Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 I was given the option to snag Battlefield V or Anthem.

Now.... I've never played any of the BF games, I'm aware they are a little more realistic compared to the arcade style of Call Of Duty. My cousin has always vouched for the BF games but like a lot of people, were disappointed because of EA taking over. Anthem looks beautiful, but I too have been hearing concerns about repetitive gameplay and server crashes.

So, should I shoot people in the face from 200 yards away? Or fly around an exotic planet like Iron Man?

What did you all decide?

Personally I LOVE BFV. It's had bad press mostly surrounding poor marketing pre release. The team has also struggled to get early bugs squashed but they are on top of that now and to my mind it's in a great spot now.

But...

There is a learning curve and it can be steep and it can be very demoralizing if your someone that quite at the first hurdle. I've played all the BF series and found it difficult BUT very rewarding when you "get it" and you work out it's inner tinkerings. The Multiplayer is where the meat of the game is though the single player is good as a short diversion.

It's very beautiful, word of advice though play it on Low settings aside from Mesh Quality which should be on ultra. Even on Low there is very very little difference.

If you are someone that has at least a passing interest in competitive shooters then you will find something for you in BFV. Top top top tip...get a mic to communicate and find a group to hang with, you can of course do without those things but being in a cohesive group TRANSFORMS the experience and makes things easier. I'm part of a great EU/Brit based group that is very n00b friendly.

Anthem looks like it could have legs if you like Destiny and such. I might give it a go in a sale.

BFV is a released game (even with it's issues), Anthem is not.

I'm a big Bioware fan but am not going anywhere near Anthem any time soon.

YMMV.

Thanks for the detailed response. Yeah Anthem looks like another Destiny pretty much and I wasn't into that at all.

And yes, my cousin did tell me to get ready for an endless ladder but said it was rewarding eventually.

I have a usb Corsair mic and head set that I have enjoyed. It's a shame, I have a super nice 300 dollar of studio sennheiser headphones but I use that for audio production and sound design, no mic :(.

Those games are pretty much each other's opposite on the multiplayer scale. One is strictly PvP, one strictly PvE. One has singleplayer story and multiplayer "mindless shooter", the other has story woven into the cooperative gameplay. One is out, the other isn't.

I've played all Battlefields and they usually last about 50 hours before I get bored by getting sniped. :D
So I'm looking forward to Anthem and its cooperation + solo loot'n'shoot model.

But we are all different.

Personally Id choose Anthem but real world type shooters never caught my interest, only shooters with a sci fi edge to them which started with the likes of UT and quake while the battlefield and COD games just bored me.

Not a good comparison...BF5 is a full game and Anthem is a bugged beta which means it cant be compared gameplay wise, but what little I have seen interests me greatly. Ill wait till its ready Im a patient man when the end result is worth waiting for and Anthem ticks all the boxes, destiny clone or not...I loved the first destiny game so if its as good or better than that then its a winner ^

LOL your banner is awesome by the way. And no I'm still saving up for one of those puppies, I have an Asp Explorer that can jump 50LY though :-/.

Anyways, good to know. I wish there were other options besides those two. I'll just wait until anthem comes out and see how everything goes before making a final decision, but still interested in other peoples thoughts.

Yeah, simply wait and see how the game is doing is the smartest thing to do, of course.

As for my banner, thank you. :)
It a double joke, because I actually hate the Anaconda both for how it flies and what it represents in terms of an OP ship that throws the balance of the whole game out of the window. :D

If you do go the anthem route, I'd wait for a few months to let the team iron out starting issues. The recent demo was plagued with connection problems and other various rubbish that are sort of par for the course with big game releases like this. For my money that will not be sorted by release day and it's a shame to look forward to something on release day only to be disappointed.

Even though I didn't really gel with the Anthem demo...and I play BF V and enjoy it, I'd suggest Anthem over BF V...the whole camperfest of the battlefield series online is getting old...Anthem is a relatively fresh take on coop PvE and worth giving a chance if you purchase after the expected release demons have been exorcised.

The question really comes down to how many friends you get playing for each title. You got a regular squad in BFV on discord? Itll be one of the most fun shooter experiences online.

Same goes for anthem. You got 3 friends hooking up with you for grinding and loot? Go get it.

Or you have friends who play both like mine. Id prefer BF5 over Anthem, if i had to choose. BF on PC is just a blast with good fps and 64 players.
