Love this show. I recently saw the old episode where they carried out a devastating debunking of Graham Hancock who previously I had taken quite seriously.

It's called something along the lines of Atlantis Reborn

And then there's all those episodes where they blow you're mind my bringing you cutting edge theories on physics, black holes etc.

wow i didnt know it was that old ;-) have been some good episodes of that over the years although lately they dont seem to have very much information in them, rather skirting over a lot of information. obviously this generation must be too thick to understand most of it, so dumbed it down a bit.

Horizon is indeed an institution; less so in recent years after BBC dumbing down. Equinox was also excellent. *sigh

LOL. I feel your pain.

I hadn't considered that Horizon was that old, despite it being a regular presence in my life since I was about eight, so a fairly significant chunk of its 50 years. It was an interesting show yesterday regarding this new prize being launched. Previously I had considered problems on the list such as paralysis to be quite personal, but the scale and implications are a lot wider than I had imagined. I still think that issues like food production, availability of drinking water and antibiotic resistance are more fundamental, but there was no trivial option in the list.

Likewise, though that episode got the BBC into trouble.

I found Hancock interesting but I remember when I was reading his earliest book I had to take it on faith a lot of what he said because it was outside my field, but when he touched on physics he made a lot of mistakes. Which in turn caused me to doubt what he said about everything else.

I would also put QED (BBC2 I think) into the mix there.

What happened to intelligent programming for inquisitive and intelligent viewers?

I wrote my undergrad dissertation on the back of a Horizon programme (it was about BSE and prions).

And now look where you've ended up! ;):D

I tend to prefer to Horizon programmes talking about Space and Physics... They're usually superb however one caught my eye recently about how Deaf People in the 70's were expected to go mainstream wherever possible rather than learn Sign Language... Some of the stuff in there reminded me of my own experiences although I am very happy to be in the mainstream!

You can see the See Hear episode here and the Horizon episode itself is now available via a link on the page.
