Be at engineer's base at 10pm (local time) to buy-sell-trade blueprint commodities?

It seems to me that miners etc could make a lot of money and players could shortcut a lot of Engineer grinding if there was an agreed daily time to be at the engineer's base for anyone interested in trading for that Engineer's upgrade materials.

10pm could be a good time when most types of players are able to be online, and the instancing algorithm tends to put geographically-nearby people together, so wherever you are in the world, I figure that 10pm Your-Local-Time should work.

I think it'll take a few weeks for people to get sufficiently familiar with Engineers that we get organized enough to want to meet and trade, but if there is a known daily meeting time in advance, it will probably work out easier.

(Most?) Engineers don't have commodities markets, so if you're wanting blueprint stuff for upgrades, remember to bring valuable commodities with you to trade (eg palladium, rares from far away, etc). I don't know what the barter values will shake out to be, but speaking for myself, as a seller I wouldn't bother to sit around waiting for customers unless I was getting about $100,000 of commodities per blueprint material, and speaking for myself as a buyer I would be happy to drop over $100,000 of regular commodities to get some pesky blueprint commodity right there on the spot that could otherwise suck an hour or more of my time questing for.

TL;DR:
1. Bring either valuable cargo (buyers) or blueprint commodities (sellers), or both. Collector limpets could help too.
2. Be at Engineer's base at 10pm your local time
3. Announce on local chat what you have and what you need
4. Trade within the safety* of the base's no-fire zone

*Safety not guaranteed :D

So... how does that sound as an informal barter-time at engineer bases? (maybe not today or tomorrow, but later in the future)

Interesting concept. Though we do need some sort of player market.

How would that work with the current mechanics though? AFAIK you can't pay other CMDRs yet.

That's why buyers have to bring valuable commodities. The seller drops the blueprint commodity for the buyer to collect, and the buyer drops the agreed value (eg $100,000+) in regular high-value commodities as payment. When the seller has either sold all their wares or run out of cargo space (or there are no more buyers), they'll hop to a nearby station and use the commodity market to convert all the payments into credits. :)

Interesting concept. Though we do need some sort of player market.

I suspect there is a fair chance that a player market feature is neither planned nor desired. (And even if they did create one I doubt it would happen until Season 3 at the earliest)

One reason I think a market feature is not intended is that part of the purpose of Engineers is to give players rewards/reasons to engage with more aspects of the game than they might otherwise try (mining for example). But by setting up a trading station, we are bypassing that intended goal. We are generating legitimate new gameplay in the process so it's not like FDev would want to shut down face-to-face trading, but at the same time they might not want to unbalance the game too far towards trading over Do-It-Yourself - a market could make trading so quick and easy that trade become a no-brainer next to learning how to mine, and at that point players ultimately lose something.

If anything FDev have eased things slightly away from player trading - players used to trade with platinum (high-value per tonne, could be purchased at markets easily, legal everywhere), however I think platinum is only obtainable by mining now, reducing the buying-power-per-tonne of cargo trading.
