Beached whales

What's with all these stranded Belugas at Obsidian Orbital?

The place is packed with NPC Belugas, most of them just standing there, some parked close to the entrance, some just hovering inside.

Isn't the Beluga supposed to be in the top 1% of all liners out there? There should be a lot more Orcas and Dolphins than Belugas out there.

Also, why are always exactly 3 Belugas at every single tourist beacon? Why always 3 and always Belugas? Unlike the engineers, stuff like this is actually a good use for RNG.

They're too scared to dock. They worry that they will be trapped in the station. Getting in is easy enough, but sometimes the 'fins' get caught in the toast rack when you try to leave.

It's been happening for quite a while, at least since the Thargoids were introduced and we were running "stuff" into Obsidian for the CG. There may be something special about that station that attracts them, but I haven't worked out what it might be.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Yeah, you'd think that an anarchy system that far out wouldn't exactly be a prime vacation spot. Certainly not somewhere you'd see luxury liners queuing up. It's like Carnival Cruise lines deciding to put a stop in at Somalia.

Chavs in Brighton?
lots of 'em

On topic:
Why are there so many Beluga's - Obsidian Orbital is really bad - like feeding time at the sea life center!!
But most busy station are guaranteed to have two or more Belugas hanging around - it's damn annoying!
FDev need to do a bit of cull.

They migrate each year to Obsidian Orbital, where they will settle down in cozy docking bays lined with duvets to hibernate until spring. When spring comes, they will awaken and disperse again.

Are you playing in Open or a large PG? - there's always been a bug where NPC's spaz out if too many CMDR's are in the instance.

That is the case indeed, in open, lots of people around. Maybe the whales are attracted to all the splashing... but that would make them sharks or crocs.

On a related note, the last 3 outposts I've docked at have had a Beluga hanging around. I don't know if it was hanging around, suckling it's thumb, or is just a eaaally big fan of mine. Regardless, outposts can't accomodate large ships, so it's wasting it's time.

Belugas are social creatures, they all heard there was a party and they want to crash the place.

They did bring their caviar, I understand it's quite the thing.
