Beagle Point - Asp or Conda

Hello All

I'm an Xbox commander who has Elite in exploration. I've been to 6,323 systems and a total hyperspace distance of 190,887 lys. I've been to Sag A, the Great Annihilator, VY Canis Majors, and many other places. I've even found and got my name on a supernova remnant. So basically, I know my way around exploring. What I've never done, however, is been to Beagle Point. That is, or will be, the feather in my cap.

I've always used an Asp for exploring. It's got great range, it's fairly nimble, and can fit a lovely 6A fuel scoop. It's pretty much my exploration go to. Recently I purchased the Anaconda for trading, which didn't really pan out as I got bored of trading pretty quickly. I know the Anaconda can get a higher jump range than the Asp because of the larger FSD. While I certainly don't mind the Conda, I definitely prefer the feel of the Asp (and that glorious cockpit).

So here's my question: If I wanted to get to Beagle Point and maybe even go a bit beyond it, how much easier would it be with a Conda. I know it only has a few extra lys, but I've heard that can be crucial in the far rim. I would be willing to use the Conda if it proved more beneficial :)

If the extra 4 or 6 LYs matters then the Conda, otherwise a 33LY Asp is good enough(Prem. Jumponium helps too)
If you have the choice of either go in the one that will not bore you :)

Asp is more nimble in SC so it is 'easier' to explore systems if you are venturing out to look at the shinies
The Anaconda gives you more jump range for the 'same' internals

You need to ask yourself if you want to go to find the amazing views or get as far as you can.

It's worth noting that the Explorer OCD crew have tagged EVERYTHING at, near, or anywhere within a 1000LY of Beagle Point, so getting your name out there should not be a priority

It's not quite so extreme as that - I've been flying around surveying in CEECKIA and there's a lot of unexplored (or at least unclaimed) systems, but certainly the approaches to BP are scanned to bits.

WRT the original question - for my run to BP I've used a fairly long-range (~ 37 ly) 'Conda build and was able to make a fairly direct crossing over the Abyss. The route planner still falls over a lot though. For ease of flight I'd go with something with a long jump range, but you should be able to use Engineer mods (if that's released yet?) to get far higher than 37 ly on either an Asp or a 'Conda.

What about a modified ASP? Not necesarily a tier 5 mod...
That's what i'm looking for.

Anaconda jump range is the best, but I rather prefer the ASP's movement and views.

We just got Horizons on Xbox a few days ago, so I don't have any rep or anything for the engineers. How easy is it to rank up with em or get the better jump range?

You can sell exploration data to Felicity Farseer and increase range easily. The more you sell, the more you increase.

I'm like you considering both for my upcoming trip to Beagle Point and cant really decide.

Asp
Great view
Good supercruise and planet maneuverability.
Easier to find landing spots on planets.

Anaconda
Longer range - its a long trip to Beagle Point.
I have so many Asp screenshots, it would be nice to have some Anaconda shots as well. It is also a better looking ship IMO.
Nice to explore in something else than the Asp for a change.

Which ever I will end up with using, will get a grade 5 FSD upgrade.

Thanks for the tip. From what I can gather these upgrades usually have a grind to them, in terms of gathering materials and whatnot. I'm kinda itching to get out there so I think I'll be staying around to get the upgrades.

It's also important to note that the Anaconda takes time to get used to; when you start piloting one, it will feel painfully sluggish to steer, but you will learn to pilot it over time. I got used to it with a months-long trip out into the Neutron Star fields, just to get away from the bubble for awhile. A trip to Beagle will certainly give you time to get used to it... the question is if you want to take the time to get used to it.

Granted, I love the 'conda, and am one of its biggest proponents for exploration use, but that little fact should be known before making a decision.

"...bit beyond it" - sounds like the Anaconda to me. And you're right, every little extra Ly is crucial in getting to the next small cluster of remote systems.

I vote ASP:
