Beagle Point in a 28.8LY Type 6 - successful mission!

Please note this post includes information regarding navigation to Beagle Point, including corrections to errors in older guides, that may be of use to other commanders.

Platform: PS4
Commander: Casbyness
Ship: Lakon Type 6, CAS-20, "Togekiss" (COVAS: Leo)

Maximum Jump Range: 28.78LY (30.92 unladen, highest achieved was 29.3LY - see point 20 below)

Journey Start: Earth, Sol, 4th January 3305
Journey End: Beagle Point 2, Beagle Point, 28th January 3305

Route map:

Key information:

1) Travelled from Earth to the Voyager 1 probe before departing Sol, on 4th January.

2) Travelled from Sol to Gagarin Gate, along the standard routes, without incident.

3) Received minor damage at system Blua Eaec PB-X c17-73, upon encountering these pranksters:

4) Continued on to Colonia, then to White Sun, before departing for the main section of the journey.

5) Took an approximate straight line path from White Sun to Beagle Point.

6) Oof! I hit a brick wall at the upper edge of the Scotum-Centaurus Arm. There was no route my ship could take through Zeewolf's Crossing or the Northwest Passage, the jump distances were simply too far.

7) Turned East and followed the edge of the Scotum-Centaurus Arm towards Roncevaux Crossing, intending to attempt Route 33 (Dragoocubx's path). Also mapped waypoints for the Shakleton Path.

8) Found a minor shortcut approximately 4/5 of the way towards Roncevaux Crossing. Was able to shave around 100 jumps off my expected route by "taking the inside lane" compared with Route 33.

9) Skimmed around the extreme western edge of Acheron before passing into the Abyss. Did not need to approach anywhere close to the Sublustris Beacon.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Encountered an extreme heat hazard at BYUA BROAE OR-N D6-0 (can't seem to find a record of this system, might be D6-6). Binary pair of stars orbited by two additional stars, creating a cluster of four in very close proximity. Jettisoned a heatsink to avoid overheating.

10) Travelled parallel to Route 33 for as long as possible, until progress west into the Abyss became blocked.

11) Travelled directly north into Route 29, specifically at system Pyraea Eurl PO-Z D13-9.

12) Things begin to get serious. The Route 29 spreadsheet I was using as a guide omitted exact distances between systems for the vast majority of the first 306 jumps. I had joined the route at jump 250, therefore the first big test was autoplotting from jump 250 (Pyraea Eurl PO-Z D13-9) to jump 306 (Syrue Theia JW-T B30-0). If no route could be plotted, it was game over.

13) Route plotted! From Syrue Theia JW-T B30-0 I was able to follow Route 29 almost exactly, until jump 346 at Syriae Thua ZC-Q B46-0. This was the first jump on the route that required a Grade 3 FSD boost, due to the distance of 44.89LY to Syriae Thua EF-G C24-1.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I suggest this particular jump and the systems on either side of it be renamed to something more memorable, since it is definitely the ONLY jump over 34LY in distance along the entire route. Short range ships only require a Grade 3 FSD boost at this specific point.

14) Autoplotted and followed an onward path to Iorant TH-U c16-1 without incident, but was then forced to stop. The Route 29 guide I was using was suddenly advising me to veer off course in a circular path, for no apparent reason. The route also included a jump back and forth across a 35.16LY distance (specifically between Iorant EA-P C19-0 and Iorant IG-N C20-0). The full circular/redundant path required 20 jumps and seemed focused on reaching Iorant EQ-G d10-3. I do not know whether this was an error or planned notable diversion to a landmark of some kind. Either way, I ignored this section of Route 29.

15) Autoplotted a route from Iorant TH-U c16-1 to Iorant XD-K d8-1, then to Iorant XG-U b30-0. The latter of these was presented as a critical waypoint, with the next jump to Iorant OR-N d6-3 requiring a Grade 3 FSD boost due to the distance of 54.69LY. This is an ERROR in previous guides. My computer was able to autoplot a six jump route from Iorant XG-U b30-0 to Iorant OR-N d6-3 with no difficulty, conserving Jumponium.

16) One final serious problem emerged. My ship was unable to autoplot a path from Iorant OR-N D6-3 to Iorant MO-O B33-0. In hindsight, this appears to simply be due to the 'roundabout' path required to navigate between those systems. At the time, I was concerned but managed to autoplot a path from Iorant OR-N D6-3 to Iorant CQ-E B25-0 with no problems, taking me over halfway across the seemingly impossible gap.

17) From Iorant CQ-E B25-0 I was able to autoplot a route to Iorant MO-O B33-0, completing the most difficult and only remaining uncertain section of the trip.

18) Again for no apparent reason, Route 29 includes a minor diversion from Iorant MO-O B33-0 to Iorant CB-W C15-0 and back again, which I ignored.

19) From Iorant MO-O B33-0 I used a Grade 1 FSD boost to reach Iorant KN-S C17-0, a distance of 30.93LY.

20) Avoided a potential boosted jump of 29LY from Iorant KN-S C17-0 to VonRictofen's Rescue, by ensuring my fuel tank was only 60% full at this point. This increased my natural range from 28.78LY to slightly above 29LY, conserving Jumponium.

21) Jumped from VonRictofen's Rescue to Iorant NT-Q C18-0 using a necessary Grade 1 FSD boost.

22) Autoplotted a route from Iorant NT-Q C18-0 to Ceeckia QJ-P C22-0 with no issues, then followed the standard path to Beagle point:

Ceeckia QJ-P c22-0 (31.76LY to next system, required a Grade 1 FSD boost)
Ceeckia UP-N c23-0 (25.79LY to next system)
Ceeckia XM-H d11-1 (23.9LY to next system)
Ceeckia WK-N c23-0 (33.4LY to next system, required a Grade 1 FSD boost)
Ceeckia WM-H d11-1 (27.16LY to next system)

IMPORTANT NOTE: My computer preferred autoplotting from Ceeckia UP-N C23-0 to Ceeckia XM-H D11-0, instead of to Ceeckia XM-H D11-1. Both are viable.

23) I arrived at Beagle Point at 9am UK time on Monday 28th January. My Type 6 ship's maximum range (with full tank) required a single Grade 3 FSD boost and four Grade 1 boosts in order to complete the final leg of the journey.

24) Paid my respects at the Memorial Beacon orbiting Beagle Point 2:

25) Finally, landed on Beagle Point 2 (what a tiny little planet it is!) and took my Scarab for a little spin. Then promptly went to bed.

Thank you! o7

I'm now debating whether to head for Colonia or wait until the new Sag A* station is constructed :)

Id wait if i were you. They increased the exploration payout in chapter 4 by quite a bit. Not sure how long it will take for them to put in the new station though might make you go a bit crazier lol

i too am on my way back to colonia in newtons vault at the moment wow long trip back, dont think i will visit beagle again unless it is a one way trip or something with 70plus LY jump to it.

my hat is off too you o7

Love how engaged you are with the route planning and your environment during the trip. It recalls old school exploration and the challenges involved. Fun read.

Just made it home safe and sound. Docked at White Sun, unloading several hundred million worth of exploration rewards :D

Am now an Elite pilot, woo hoo!

Was down to my final heatsink, thanks to a few fun binary systems and a particularly unprofessional Neutron Star, who thought it would be fun to ambush me when I arrived in a random system :3
