Beagle Point - Is it worth the Hype?

So I'm about 27,000 LY from Beagle Point (currently out in the EUFAF ZS-A C14-5 System) and I have toe decision to make and that's either finally head back to the Bubble or divert to hit Beagle Point.

My question is, is it really worth it to go just to say, I've been? I don't think there's really much to see there am I correct? Or is there something I'm missing? Other than being able to post on the "Been to Beagle Point Board" that I was there and snap a photo like the visitors page to Sag A*?

Just curious if it's worth my time or not to see it...

Thanks

There is nothing particularly special about the system in of itself. As for whether it is worth going 'just to say, I've been', that is up to you. Personally, I saw it as something of an accomplishment to have got that far, though I found it a darned sight easier in an engineered Asp, starting from Colonia, than earlier travellers would have done. I enjoy exploring, so I explore. If you don't enjoy it, I'd recommend not doing it. Simple as that...

It's a neat feeling being at Beagle Point though, 65,279 lys from SOL:

On one side you have the entire Milky Way with home practically all the way across it, on the other side you have pure blackness with just a very few specks of light burning away out over that edge. Sure the actual system itself isn't extraordinary, but the feeling of simply being there kind of is.

Ok thanks for the input. Yes I've been exploring quite a bit all over the galaxy on multiple journey's and really didn't think there was much to it. You just made up my mind and I'll skip it and finally get back to the bubble and not worry about it then. If I get there down the road, then I do, but I won't bother doing it now.

I just didn't want to miss out if there was something really special to see there...

Oh but there is.. The view from BP towards the center of the galaxy is staggering. When you realize that your home is all the way at the other side of that center, you feel quite small..
Also, Beagle Point itself is quite special when you think about the fact how it was found originally. But, youll know it only if you have been there.. ;)

to see it... well there isn't really anything to "see" there, its just another system,

but is beagle worth it?

yes, nothing better than going to the edge and looking back, also since jumponium / engineers etc, you may aswell go out further than beagle now.

but... its just another system there isn't fireworks flying about when you arrive, its likely to be dead (i.e. no one there) and everything is tagged within an inch of its life around it

if you go with the right expectations though its a great "pilgrimage" and the feeling you get when your so far from Sol is only possible out on that edge.

only thing I will say is back in the bubble when its 65kly away and not 27kly you will wish you went :)

Distant Worlds 3302. No hype. Totally brilliant. 65k there 65k back. No compromise.
If you commit to that journey 'there and back again' (you don't qualify in my opinion if you suicide on the way back) then you'll understand that the word "hype" doesn't fit in the Beagle Point experience.

I've been there twice, and while I did feel it is an accomplishment, the last 15-20 kly in the outer arm is a really desolate place - with lots of tags. :)

Actually, I'm surprised the amount of explorers driven to the fridges despite having by far the most interesting systems (and the sheer number of them) in the core area.

Have you ever walked up Snowdon?

If you set off from Pen-Y-Pass and walk up one of the routes available you'll eventually get to the ridge near the top and see train tracks, and if you're really lucky: the train go past full of relaxed passengers smirking and pointing at the idiots who chose to walk. Then when you see the crowded cafe full of the self-same people taking photos and chortling as they stuff their faces before starting the arduous ride back down, you might wonder why you bothered.

This is why:

You get to enjoy the **journey** not the destination.

Is the PLACE worth it? No.

Is GETTING there worth it? Yes. Every time.

(disclaimer... I did get back from Beagle Point the day before DWE left and joined in. My advice needs to be taken in context)

I've been there twice, and while I did feel it is an accomplishment, the last 15-20 kly in the outer arm is a really desolate place - with lots of tags. :)

Space is cold. Fridges are cold. We like the cold.
