Engineers BEAM LASER: Mods & Specials

As there's no mod that reduces the power and PD drain of beam lasers I'd suggest picking a mod like sturdy mount L1 and spinning until you get useful effects like thermal shock, the effects (from Inara) are listed below, I've only used thermal shock on pulse lasers so I can't comment on how useful the other two are.

POSSIBLE EXPERIMENTAL EFFECTS
Concordant Sequence
A modification that causes weapon strikes to temporarily enhance the regeneration rate of a wingmans shield, at the cost of increased heat generation

Regeneration Sequence
Friend or Foe Beam modulation upgrade. When the beam strikes a wingmans shield its energy is regulated, regenerating the shield instead of damaging it.

Thermal Conduit
Experimental upgrade that increases damage output based on heat level of the firing ship.

Thermal Shock
Articulated focus array designed to spread heat effectively. Strikes to shields and hull impart additional heat into the target.

Thermal Vent
Experimental upgrade that increases heat dissipation when successfully striking a target, at the cost of increased heat generation when missing.
 
i'd better pick lightweight instead of sturdy.

Well lightweight isn't going to save a lot of mass (level 1 on a class 1 = 0.3 T) and it loses a little damage and integrity as well, I've lost most of my stock weapons to missiles so a bit of extra integrity might be worth the additional mass.

i rarely fit beam lasers this days - the L4 modifications for pulses get them close to beam laser DPS, for much lower power and distributor draw.

but if, i go with shortrange blaster modification - on a turrett. reasoning there is, that the lesser range helps with the turrett not firing at uneffective range, and the firing arc of a turrett helps with hitting constantly if close enough.

i also tried a longrange modification - the damage drop off gets also pushed out, it is great for stripping shields.

but, as said - pulses beat beams for me these days, because of the l4 modifications.
 
i myself wanna try turreted beams on two med hardpoints on my Python.
But dunno what mod and special put on them. Maybe short range with thermal vent\shock. I need to be sure, cause there is 2 plasma slug rails now.

i definetly would not go thermal vent. turretts "often" don't hit small/nimble ships for some time, and there is no practical way to stop a turrett firing.

i personally think two modded beam turretts on a python is an overkill, but if, i would mod them both with short range blaster.

but - as said above - 2 medium pulse turretts modded at L4 give you nearby as much DPS as beams - for much less distributor draw.

I tried all the beams.

I mention some experiences.

It depends on so you are going to use and how to combine them.
In some cases I play with, fixed weapons.

My current experience, for a ship balanced between (PVE / PVP)

I love beam lasers.

I clarify that my ships are full modified class 5 in all aspects. Weapons, Thrusters, Shields Boosters
, Shield Generators and Power Plants.

Long Range Weapon +Thermal Conduit
: my favorite for bounty hunting and hunt wanted CMDR, this modification increases the damage according to the temperature of my ship, obviously in a Class 4 within the fer de lance and 2 incendiary multicanons, helps me quickly eliminate enemy shields from far.



Short Range Blaster + Regeneration Sequence : I use this for pvp in my medical anaconda, recharge shields an ally in less than 3 seconds, being short blaster damage is greater, this compensates for having no other effect when shooting enemies.Your wing should approach but its very funny.


Short Blaster + Thermal Shock,I use it to increase the heat of the ship, but I tried it in pvp and did not give me the result I expected. So I removed it.

The beams are fun on PVE.

Clarified that the beams are not very useful in pvp, unless the regenerator sequence if you play in wing.

For PVP im use Fixed weapons, no beams and other modifications.

Thanks for your answers. Im in a Corvette and have a C3/G BL on the large hardpoint, I already use Thermal Shock & Thermal Conduit both with Sturdy Mount but those reduce damage up to 30%, I want to do more damage to shields no less.

I think you should remove the modification sturdy mount in your case being a slow ship would use long range weapons.
 
Thermal Vent is a horrible idea on turreted weapons. If they chaff your heat will skyrocket. You'll cook yourself as long as they keep chaff on and it forces you to constantly stow or have a quick way of turning them off and on. Personally I believe Thermal Shock is the best for turreted especially with long range. There's no disadvantage to you and within 4km they will continue to stay at an elevated heat level.

I have a large and two small thermal shock turreted long range beams on my corvette. It'll raise a complete thermal build corvette to 70% and with the need for shield boosters and him flying around it becomes an additional element to deal with. Likewise he will probably be heating you up because heat is the current meta.

If you chose vent obviously this cancels it out but it can also harm you more if you keep missing. You may as well fight fire with fire. The only viable experimental effects IMO are Thermal Shock and Regeneration Sequence. You could go vent but only on gimbals or fixed.

and how are you with jitter?
 
basically - if you want to kill submoduls, jitter is a problem. nit so much for destroying a ship or stripping shields.

thermal vent is the only reason my vulture operates properly lol

Best damage for beams? I would recommend selling it...and then buying a pulse with highest grade overcharged mod you can.

Unless you want sustained heat for thermal shocks the beams only get up to grade 2 upgrades. Max grade OC pulse ramps damage up enough that beams get left in the dirt.
