Engineers Beam Laser need some love.

Well - it's the age of the multicannon. There are multiple reasons I refit all the ships I fly to all-MC (used to be all lasers and rails since gamma). At some point they'll realise, change multiple parameters at once and create the next big thing.

Overcharged can increase damage more than distributor draw, making the weapon more efficient and more powerful simultaneously. You could possibly then equip for example 2 overcharged grade 5 beams instead of 3 unmodded beams, have the same or more DPS for less overall distributor draw, and a free hardpoint for something else.

Overcharged rank 5 can potentially increase distributor efficiency, but it takes a pretty good roll to do so (technically grade 4 can too, but it takes secondary effects). Remember that the distributor draw value presented is per shot (or tick, for beam lasers), not per second, so you are looking at the damage vs draw rather than DPS vs draw.
