Engineers Beam Laser Turret + Sturdy Mount mod = Bug?

I visited the Dweller and used a level 1 Sturdy Mount mod on my 3D Beam Laser turret (Anaconda Huge hardpoint). I was pleased to get my first bonus roll of "Thermal Shock" into the bargain.

Then I flew off and fought for an evening (which cost me a 28 million rebuy, sigh). The Beam turret seemed pretty ineffectual compared to how it had been. Then I looked at it in an Outfitters screen. There were *3* changes, not the 2 I'd been informed of by the Engineer:

  1. Mass: up 46% (bad but I already accepted that)
  2. Integrity: up 23% (great stuff, as expected)
  3. Damage per second: down 25% (What?!)

Where the hell did that last effect come from? Not from a secondary effect that the Engineer told me. Surely not from the Thermal Shock bonus - at least the text for it mentions only additional thermal damage.

I can't see any threads reporting anything similar but thought I'd check first - has anyone read or experienced this or something like it?

Could the DPS have been a secondary effect? After the initial roll there are secondary effects rolled on the right hand side (before spinning the bonus wheel - no Whammies, no Whammies, no Whammies... STOP!)

Its simpler than you think! The engineer downgraded your weapon size and filled the rest with armour ;)

Im joking i've seen downgrades but 25% for a sturdy sounds strange, did it get a special mod or side effect?

Yup, that's the only thing I can think of. And yet, are secondary effects ever that great? - minus 25% damage per second? I tend to think of them as minor tweaks to what has already gone. I can't find a web resource that lists secondary effects. I'll check next visit to the Dweller (unless some kind pilot can do that when they visit?).

I guess "at the cost of" is missing from the special effect description. Grade 1 never had secondary effects for me before, but special effects usually come with a down side.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's part of the experimental effect - that heat damage possibly comes at the price of 25% normal damage. Is that not similar to how Incendiary Rounds works?
