Newcomer / Intro Beam lasers on sidewinder....they just overheat!

Just dont continuously fire them, ive had two beam lasers on my sidey called "Sting" and its never overheated.

Definitely invest in a better powerplant and distributor. Buying good weapons won't help unless you also have the power to support them

Honestly even with an A class distributor and power plant Beams are very lackluster, was running duel C3 Gimballed Beams on my Vulture and it was taking substantially longer to kill even tier 1 ships like Eagles. At least for the Vulture I can say with 100% certainty to run either Gimballed Pulse or Burst if your looking for a duel laser setup, their more effective at taking out subsystems and can be fired substantially longer and if that wasn't enough they cost about a fifth of a C3 Beam laser.

Correct. The balance between weapons, power distributers and power plants is very crucial. E.g. Anaconda with 3 C3 beam lasers can continuously fire for 7.5 seconds, with 2 C3 beam lasers - 15 seconds. If beam lasers consume too much power, they should be replaced to the weapons that require less power, thus increasing efficiency.

What about there poor accuracy while Gimballed? They seem to sway way too much and struggle hit targets even with A class sensors (heard that has an impact on auto targeting, but not 100% sure)

Sensors do not affect the accuracy of gimballed weapons. I've seen plenty of videos of gimballed weapons being quite accurate. Personally, I prefer fixed weapons.

Did not know that, I personally enjoy Gimballed. The damage sustainability is unmatched, I know as far as damage goes Fixed are superior but that is assuming your accuracy is spot on, or your target is stationary. Also for beams I was talking more or less about the lack of accuracy when targeting subsystems more less than there ability to hit the target as a whole. Maybe its the lower armor penetration that makes them just seem like there aren't hitting because the targets hull is taking more damage than what I'm targeting.

I have used gimballed beams on my sidey with no real issues.

A class power plants and distributor and as has been said before, easy on the button. I rend to tap, it lengthens the fire time and gives the chance for the pips to build up.
