Beams and MCs - which should be C2?

Interesting thread. I currently run 2 x c2 rail guns and 2 x c1 gimbal mc. The rail guns pack a punch on both shield and hull but are ammo limited and take some getting used to. I wanted to try some fixed c2 beams but can't seem to find them (only seen gimbled which I don't want). anyone know where I can find some around eranin, founders world or lave?

The 'Back Enterprise' station in CD-34 9020 is a short jump from Lave. It has almost everything - including C2 beams. I fully A fit my Viper and T6 there.

I use 2 x fixed C2 beams and (at the moment) 2 x C1 gimballed multi cannon.

I'm experimenting with alternatives to the mc now though. Since switching the C2s from pulse to beams I've found I don't need the mc much.

Power is a bit tight though. I'm using mostly A stuff, except for D rated life support, shield cell, kws and interdictor. I need to turn off fsd, cargo hatch, fuel scoop and interdictor when the guns come out.

Just popping this here:

You need all grade A to run that, but it works...

That's the wreck of an Anaconda Assassination....

How do bursts compare to beam and pulse?

Tried the plasma accelerator. Hated it. Could not hit a thing. .;)

I just tried a couple of load outs against an elite anaconda, and by far the least aggravating setup was fixed c2 pulse lasers to actually bring the shields down today, and gimballed c1 multi cannons to help finish the power plant.

When I tried a mix of c1 and c2 multi cannons and c1 and c2 pulse lasers, I found that often the top gun would have trouble tracking with the bottom. I also tried c1 railguns but they did very little damage unless scoring a direct hit on the powerplant. With 30 shots max they seem to be relegated to trolling rather than any serious application in combat, sadly.

For taking down shields quickly you want beams, but you can't run a Pwn Cannon alongside them realistically. That's 2xC1 Burst, C2 Pulse, and a Pwn Cannon. Shields go down very quickly and as long as your aim is good then they are very effective with very low power requirements but are C1 only.

The Pwn Cannon is really effective in maneuverable ships like the Viper and Cobra against big stuff like Anacondas, Pythons, and Transports as you can sit behind and just pop a blast out every 2 seconds. It takes some adjustment compared to other weapons as the ball travels quite slowly. The other tactic is to sit at just over 2km in reverse thrust popping chaff, as they will chase you and hitting them at that point is very easy. Anacondas take 5-15 hits dependent on rank if you have the Power Supply/FSD targeted, and mix in some laser fire too.

C1 Rails are useless now. They do crap damage and the ammo capacity is terrible. C2s are okay, but they aren't what they were in Beta most definitely.

C2 Lasers + C1 Multis is the preferred 'do-it-all' setup that allows you to kill anything. If you are unsure what to fit then you won't go wrong with that. The next best is C1 Beams + C2 Multis for multi-purpose use.

I use class 2 beams to get shields down as fast as possible.
After that all hits are on the powerplant, if I want to kill it, and 4 guns hitting it takes it down fast, be that 4 MC or 4 anything else.

Still not sure why people are saying hulls are toughest to take down etc as they shouldn't be aiming for the hull and getting it to 0%
If you are going to kill something kill it by hitting the powerplant so it dies as fast as possible, what hull it has then is irrelevant.

I'm also in the "Class 2 for Beams" camp.

If you're fighting another player, they have several ways to make their shields extremely hard to get through. You can't drive them off or destroy them if you can't get through their shields...

Yep, the Class 2 beams (the 500k ones) will strip the shields of most ships in no time... except a properly kitted out Anaconda. They will do it eventually but it takes time and an A3 power plant. For Anaconda 'get the pirate' missions I'm moving towards fully decked out dumbfires. Two C2 beams and 2 C1 multis for just about everything else.
