Beautiful nebula and other phenomena

I'm just about ready to buy myself an Asp, equip it for exploring, and strike out into the deep.

Sagittarius A* is at the top of my destination list, but is there anything else out there that I really, absolutely, must see? Any really beautiful nebula, totally unique star systems, etc?

A huge amount.. Closest to Sol, you have Mintaka and Pleiades, Spirograph Nebula and Barnard's loop. Heading towards the core I have seen some pretty amazing sights

Coalsack Nebula
M67 sector
DROJU FQ-A C3-11
THORS EYE (Black hole)
LKHA 115 (Three Black holes)
Lagoon Nebula
Trifid Nebula
Great Annihilator

Next trip when I get back from the core is a simple loop taking me to some more of the Nebulae near Sol.

HD 227018
HD 189777
HD 192443
SADR REGION
PELICAN Nebula
North America Nebula
ELEPHANT's Trunk Nebula
CAVE Nebula
NGC 7822 Nebula
Soul Nebula
Heart Nebula
NGC 281 Nebula
Bubble Nebula
Crescent Nebula
Veil Nebula East

Last trip i made

Pleiades (look on wikipedia. there are 12 gigantic stars, clouds, and the MAIA system has a black hole that can distort pretty neat the colorfull clouds)
Rigel Star (a gigantic star on the way)
Withchead Nebula (there's no star inside it, but it's lightened by rigel and getting close is fantastic sightsseing)
SPIROGRAPH NEBULA (it's a small planetary nebula no bigger than the system, with delightfuul green colouring)
ORION NEBULA (massive star density)
Running Man Nebula, Horsehead, Barnard's Loop, Flame and Orion Dark Region: all these nebulae are piled on top of each other and have beatifull sightseeing, also you can see them from every system in the civilized bubble, so when you come back, everytime you look at the sky, you can think you have been there)

All these nebulae are no further than 1000 Ly from Sol, and close each other.

From there you can go back or go on toward seagull nebula, rosetta nebula or california nebula. But all these last nebulae are way more distant and are located in the outer rim where star density is low, so you need 35 LY jump range or deturing up and down.

I never been to the core, but these nebulae are really fantastic.

Some of these nebula and regions I can see on the map, and of course specific systems are easy to find using the search function in the galaxy map; what's the best way to locate some of these other nebula?

Eskimo nebula is my favourite. Close to Sol, good colour, black hole to warp it. Fsd away from the exclusion zone gives the best effect in the game, a proper brown alert moment

Nebulae are searchable too

I usually look for them in the galactic map. Their name is written in big letter. Then i navigate the cursor inside the nebula, look for a system i like, write it down and plan my route there.
I didn't know you could search Nebula too.
Note that some nebulae have no system inside them. Witch Head nebula is just a big atoms cloud and it's spitting TTauri just outside. It is lightened not by stars inside it but by Rigel a 100 Ly outside of it (reflective nebula type).
If you have difficulties finding the very small Spirograph Nebula (very worth the visit IMHO), the only system inside is BD-12 1172

I was up to mention the Spirograph Nebula also, its looks absolute awesome from the inside!

I think the Lemon Slice Nebula whould look awesome to, but i also think it is unreachable -.-

HR 7118 -black hole and neutron star in close orbit to each other
Dumbbell Nebula - gorgeous colour inside
Veil Nebula - beautiful colours as you get closer
HD 193576 - triple black holes and a large ring system around an M class star!
HD 227733 (MAHOOSIVE protoplanetary ring around a dwarf star)
Crescent Nebula - wonderful spread of clouds and colours. Lots of System Permit Required stars.

And that's just the highlights in the direction of Cygnus. There's a hell of a lot out there that's yet to be surveyed.

The Hind Nebula (properly, Hind's Variable Nebula) is a delightful little place to visit. Very small, and looks nothing at all from the outside, but inside is very pretty. It's brightly illuminated by T Tauri (the prototype for such stars) in peachy tones and has a couple of attractive ringed planets. It's like being inside a colourful sphere.

The Orion Molecular Cloud complex (Barnard's Loop, the Horeshead, Running Man, etc is a pretty spectacular area).

There's a few shots here that might be of interest.

NGC 3199 has some good sights. You should take a look at my guide for some nice pictures and where to stop to get the best bang for your time.
