Hey folks,
Having seen so many whinging threads and comments over the last few months, I'd actually got quite concerned that I wasn't going to like this game. As a veteran of Frontier many years ago, I had high expectations.
So apologies if you find this post a bit dull, but just wanted to give some positive feedback. Had the game 3 days now, as I've only just got a machine I can play it on. First day was a disappointment as it turns out I am completely cack handed with mouse and keyboard.
On day 2, my Thrustmaster HOTAS X arrived and the game was suddenly playable. Okay, so I'm still a pretty poor pilot and my combat skills are pants, BUT... I could complete scenarios 1 and 2 and I managed to dock first time and every time without crashing or being shot.
Day 3, and now I'm getting to appreciate the graphics and gameplay as I am starting to get the hang of the controls, and worked out how to do hyperspace jumps and not overshoot every time on supercruise. So today I started trading and managed to make about $2400 in a couple of hours or so.
Nothing ground breaking, but you know what? I like this game. I like flying through the docking port, I like landing on the pad, I actually enjoy flying the ship around. Whilst I completely sympathise with those struggling with mouse & keyboard, I can't understand why people complain so much about docking and landing. Get yourselves a HOTAS, spend a bit of time configuring the buttons, and it only takes a short while to get the flight basics. I haven't crashed much (oops, well I did get snagged by the docking cage on the outside of a Coriolis, but rubbin' is racing), and have been able to land properly every time.
I love this game. I'm looking forward to being able to dogfight properly, but my skills need A LOT of work. But just trading a bit and pottering around has been a great way to get used to the controls, and actually do something in game. This is going to be awesome! Thanks for listening guys!
