Horizons Becoming Wanted after Interdiction

This is just a thought and in no way a gripe but, when I get interdicted I assess the ship that is attacking and then open fire as soon as so that I can get in the first shots. But..... not all the ships that interdict are wanted so by defending yourself you become wanted.
This seems unreasonable as if the NPC interdicts you he is committing an aggressive act surely?

Thoughts?

I think this is okay, we get a fine for interdicting without permission. The NPC's maybe too?
Another thing is, have you never interdicted accidentally someone you didn't want to interdict? Or you are in your homesystem, maybe with playerfaction and you will care about your BGS, so you interdict an other player to check if he is smuggling crap to "your" station. You just do it right, but getting a fine. Imagine you get wanted instant by protecting your BGS...many people would moaning xD (me too) so i think it is okay.
When an NPC interdict you, you get instant the scan-information about him so that you KNOW if he is already wanted or not. So it shouldn't happen that you get wanted. Eccept you are Lucky Luke [big grin]

Well true, I am working on the BG but I think I would be a little 'snap happy' in another system. I'm not saying it's wrong, it only just occurred to me because it 'was' in my home system. Easy to get rid of the wanted status of course but I just wondered if it was 'real life' enough.

Did you have "report crimes against me" switched on?

If you do, let them get a shot in, then they become wanted if they aren't already, obviously a bit more of a risk once they get to higher levels...

Interdicting a clean target is considered an offense and therefore gives you a fine. It is not assault and shouldn't be treated as such. Unless you want to turn all the pirates in open into outright murder hobos.

I think you were dealing with a Bounty Hunter, not a pirate. Bounty Hunters in 2.1 are using Kill Warrant scanners now, so if you have a bounty on you IN ANY system, they can interdict you somewhere else and try to take you out. Until they fire on your ship, they usually scan as CLEAN. If you fire the first shots after the interdiction, then yes, you will gain a WANTED rating on you. But... If you wait and let them take the first shot at you, then they will be wanted and THEN you can fire on them with impunity!

Just remember that if you have a dormant bounty in the system this takes place in, when the SA ships arrive and scan you, they will see that bounty and will reactivate it, and you will then be considered open game! The best advice I can give is to make sure you know your status in any system you are in at any time, so that you know what can happen in advance.

But back to the CLEAN interdictors.... These guys are bounty hunters, not pirates.

Ah ha, that would explain it, I wasn't aware of that being the case. I think I was wanted by one of the factions too as I'm playing the BG but this last one was from a different system. Thanks, that all makes sense now.
