PvP Bedtime with CMDR Feros

This is PS4, right?

What sort of performance hit is there while capturing video? Or are you capturing externally?

Yes PS4. No perf hit. I believe there is dedicated hardware to support this and it's integrated with the final rendering of video/audio output.

The PS4 is actually always recording by default. You don't even need to turn it on, just press the share button then the square button and it will save the last file buffer worth (default 15 minutes, but can be increased).

Presumably the constant recording into the circular buffer increases disk i/o but doesn't seem to affect gameplay IME.

This is one of the rare areas console is a bit easier/more convenient/whatever than PC for this game. (Although it doesn't always capture voice comms - seems to depend on a slightly opaque combination of a particular game's implementation and also privacy permissions of participants).

Overall though performance is atrocious compared to a good PC setup. The videos of the mass slaughter launch of DW2 on PS4 have single digit frame rates.

If I am performing a concert, and if I wish to disseminate the recording, it is considered proper etiquette to get the permission of the other performers in said concert first.

I wonder what would happen to video game recording if the consent of all parties involved were required before distribution? And how about the video being monetized?

You will have my respect, Commander Feros if you create as "witty" a video with your being the object of derision.

The harmonic modulation at the end of the lullaby was priceless.

Can the recording be entirely disabled to verify the lack of a performance hit?

ED is very light on disk i/o itself, so this is not surprising.

Also not surprising, given the differences in hardware and some of the iffy presets Frontier seems to use for various settings.

I usually inform people that feature prominently that I am recording, but that's as far as I normally go. No one has any rational expectation of privacy while participating in a open world, always connected, multi-player video game.

This would make publishing most videos extremely impractical, which is probably why no one expects/requires this.

And how about the video being monetized?

Frontier could probably make a claim and get a share, but no one else would have grounds to do so without some prior agreement with the uploader, I'd imagine.

Way ahead of you. Still from a video I uploaded on Jan 20. The accompanying narration was "better than this n00b" referring to myself.

Probably, but there's a lack of tools to measure any sort of metric like frame-rate. Or at least, I'm unaware of any on PS4.

Probably someone has rooted theirs and done all kinds of things but I save that sort of thinky thinky stuff for my work PCs.

I also have the "slim" version of the PS4 which has an inferior graphics card to the "pro" version IIRC. There's a few such things I'd have to control for. Mostly when I play my console it's just for ease of use and not worrying about such considerations.

I'm suddenly filled with desire to have Sam Jackson tell me a certain bedtime story. Hmm.

Perhaps I can help.

You like to read the Bible Feros? You see there's this passage I got memorized, sorta fits this occasion...
