General / Off-Topic Beekeeping

Amongst other things down on Yaffle Farm we keep bees. This means, of course, that we get honey, wonderful smelling candles, mead, and stings. Lots of stings.

It also means that people are forever sending me e-mails and petitions about particular things to do with bees, such as colony collapse disorder. I like all of those mails, and feel good that my friends think about me. I digress.

Today I was sent what has to be the most surreal bee related story I have every seen - a beekeeping assistant that's, well, an ass:

Here's the article for anyone intrigued about beekeeping donkeys - http://www.takepart.com/article/201...eeping-donkey?cmpid=tpdaily-eml-2014-05-02-v1

SO stuck between a new thread and putting this in the silly pictures one, I opted for a new thread for those who would be interested.

Feel free to discuss below the effect of neonics on bees, average hive yield, the economic and disease effects of imported honey, why there's no varroa on the Isle of Man etc etc...
