Been away for months and I come back to this?!

I hadn't fired up Elite for several months on my PS4 for reasons I would imagine are obvious...

Was frazzled from killing vampires in Evil West last night so on a whim loaded ED for something more chilled. Flew my Courier over to Jameson to see what's happening. More out of hope than any expectations I looked at Outfitting and was extremely pleasantly surprised to find the Scorpion SRV on sale!

Just one small thing but it gave me some hope that we console users were perhaps not getting tossed aside after all.

Then today I came on to the forums to look for something totally unrelated and I noticed the post about console going legacy. Great, so we are indeed getting abandoned, I shouldn't have let myself think otherwise.

Thing is, now that I've got ED back in my head, I quite fancy jumping in my Type-9 space truck, filling it with cargo, cranking up some tunes are running between stations for the max profits. Or, heading out to an icy ring and mining away for an hour or two. Indeed, I am still on Dangerous for combat and I always did want that triple Elite!

So, I guess I'm a sucker and I'll keep plugging away from time to time. ED was for a long time, getting on for two years, my main game and everything else was just squeezed in around time in the black. Those days are long gone now and it makes me kinda sad that it has come to this.

They stated in march 2022 that the game was not getting any "content" or "features" updates on console or PC 3.8 versions... (horizons)
They have now stated they will be removing content and not supporting that content on both console and PC 3.8 versions..

Removing of content which has still been provided to 3.8 after the march 2022 is a new change...
All of the changes is why they have been 0ffering a Copy of account to PC copy not copy and delete function to PC account and they now put a deadline on it to make people actual do something about it...

The game will be still active and online title you just wont see any updated news or functions as long as the servers still connect to client..
When servers fail to connect you should see an update to then reconnect the legacy client...

They even stated you wont ba able to buy all the over charged paint skins and store items as they wont all work on 3.8 as it will require the client to be updated to include them which they wont be doing...

That's fine by me, 4.0 players can't enjoy the Pulse paint jobs, so it's a fair exchange XD

Are you sure it was the actual Scorpion SRV for sale and not say a skin "only" erroneously listed for it on console?!

As apparently that has happened before, while supposedly the Scorpion only works in PC 4.0's codebase, UNLESS Frontier were lying or telling a half-truth and WHEN have they ever done that?!

Anyway, "for science", I must go check on that myself!!

Unfortunately the Scorpion will be useless as you can't deploy it in 3.8; it's only there as a stub so it doesn't break things when a player with 4.0 switches to 3.8. Guess that won't be a huge problem soon, though...

Most of us figured that out when they cancelled development for consoles eight months ago.

Regardless, ED 3.8 - soon to be Legacy - is still a pretty solid game with plenty to do and enjoy. And the fact that Frontier has decided to keep iit around instead of killing it off entirely suggests it'll remain for a while yet. So don't get too sad, it's not dead yet.

I wish they'd AT THE VERY LEAST, hire a smaller second team to "port" any new content from the "live" game that they can, new ships, weapons, gadgets etc (the stuff the "last gen" consoles seemingly never had any trouble running, before Odyssey dropped! ) into "legacy" mode, or even "God" forbid, develop some stuff especially for "legacy" mode, however long it would take them to port/make it - new content is new content!!

Haven't transferred anything yet, as I thought there is no rush.

Still a damn shame that they discontinued console support. Was my favorite game for a long time, and tbh it's hard to make the jump to PC (no good rig and habits, you know...).

We SHOULD be able to still spend them on the console and other "legacy" mode, PC 3.8, they just won't transfer, so if you want to "take" such Arx to "live" mode/PC 4.0, Frontier recommend spending them on cosmetics on the store first, as you get to transfer any purchased cosmetics...
(Though Frontier hasn't actually made an announcement that we still can buy cosmetics in "legacy" mode, though we should know for certain once it launched tomorrow, but I'm nearly certain we still will be able to)

I just did the transfer myself, mostly "for science" but choose not to spend my Arxs balance before doing it, firstly I'm not particularly into cosmetics, mostly because I've no particular interest in playing Elite or really any games on PC short of the handful I already do (really only the X3 trilogy and Age of Empires iii, all of which I'd much rather be playing on PlayStation anyway, if only they were available on my family of systems of choice! )...

Indeed as alluded to, I've no particular intention of using my new PC transfer account and IF I ever do, it'll still take a far backseat to my Playstation gaming!!

I don't have, nor do I have any particular intention of buying a PC capable of playing Elite 3.8, let alone 4.0 and Odyssey!

I may buy the Steam deck in the future, though Elite isn't listed as being supported on that, otherwise, short of my winning the lottery and having more time and money than sense, I don't think I'll ever own a PC that can properly run Elite! ...

I'm do my best to enjoy playing Elite I'm the new "legacy" on PS4 for many years to come and any cosmetics I do spend my Arx on will be on there...

Of course what I really want is for Frontier to launch complete native "live" version of Elite on PS5 and Xbox Series X so we can all continue to play the game as intended on our systems of choice! ...

yep as stated as far back as march 2022, david said 3.8 was done... then later this year david also was done changing title and reducing his PR work load.
keeping compatibility with server farm is all they had announced with no 4.0 for consoles...
They have only released server compatibility updates which keep compliance with PC focused server farm.
They still have to put the client through SIE compliance every time as well... So they have to release patches under SIE rules still... unlike PC clients...

Hello pilots. I've been playing the game since 1992, quit, then come back again. The fact that the game was released on PS4 at one time was happiness for me and I flew for many hours, was one of the first who killed the targoids and received awards. Last year, for personal reasons, it was not up to the game. And what a disappointment settled in me when I found out that our open world of PS4 in ED turned into an ordinary sandbox (beautiful, big, but a sandbox....) After all, the game on PS4 is home comfort and ease of joystick control. I do not know what to do, I do not have a computer and the opportunity to buy it and devote so much time.I have read many forum pages and news on ED. Braben made a difficult decision that made us overboard and it's very sad. I do not know of a single problem that could not be solved with money. Is the console world so unprofitable financially.
