Newcomer / Intro Been floating around Matet for 2 hours looking for Coehlo Station. What am I missing?

So I did the new player mission where I had to travel to a particular station and was able to find it. By chance, though, really... I just happened to be looking around and happened upon it. So I arrived, got my 10k, and picked up a new mission to carry som cargo to Coehlo Station in the Matet system. So I marked it on my star map, and arrived in the system, and this is where I'm completely befuddled. What am I missing here? Surely I'm not expected to just spin around in my cockpit for hours on end until I pass by the right waypoint by chance, right? 1,000 years into the future, we've mapped out the entire galaxy, but we can't put nav markers on nearby stations? Surely there's something I'm just missing here. I tried floating around and bringing up my nearby contacts to see if it popped up, but I haven't seen it. There's GOT to be a better way to find destinations than this, right? I'm sure I'm just missing something incredibly stupid.

Navigation panel? Didn't accidentally filter anything out, did you?
I don't think so. I don't know how to do that. The navigation panel, is that the one on the left or in the middle? I'm brand new at this obviously, but just trying to do a couple missions to get my bearings.

Welp. That sorted it out. Thanks for the help, sir.
Glad to hear that. That's why you started off in the Pilots Federation play pen, to figure out all the little isms of things. I stuck around for 2 weeks. When I had 20 mill, I bolted. Once you decide to leave you can't go back.
Once you do leave, It doesn't get much better. There's always a learning curve.
Don't be shy to ask the wiser veteran commanders questions in the forums.
They've solved lots of aggravation for me. (the map was the worst when it comes to learning, well for me anyways).
Best wishes Cmdr 07

Even if you have something targeted, it took me a long time to find the direction to look for things like other systems, until someone on the forums mentioned a crucial thing: the compass!

This is the small circle beside your radar. If you have something targeted, a blue solid or hollow dot will appear in the circle. If it's in the half-sphere behind you it's hollow, and if it's in the half-sphere ahead it's a solid dot. If the dot is on the edge, it's perpendicular to you, if it's in the cross hairs... Well, you'll either see it straight ahead or its straight behind. Once you've noticed the compass it's easy to figure out how it works. Super helpful to find locations of things.

Wow that is super helpful. Thanks for pointing that out!

You're welcome! I think I was a solid month into playing before I learned about it... Made things so much easier to find! I used to start spinning in one direction while looking around with head look mode. If I didn't find my target then I turned the spin 90 degrees and tried again. Kept going similarly until I found it my target.

It's often easier to find stations and outposts by opening up the system map, where they're all listed and shown in the picture. you can target them there with the inverted cone symbol.

Yeah I actually just figured that out today after studying the navigation system more
