Been struggling for weeks now... When I play in extended mode...

FIXED - Green Haze in Rift

... I get the green haze instead of true blacks.

Its been driving me crazy - especially now when all I want to do is strap in and go head for Sol with all its beauty but I cannot allow myself to have the experience ruined because of all this green haze and bad smearing.

Its no good playing in Direct to Rift mode as, although the green problem isn't present, the doubling/splitting of the image is just as bad if not worse.

I have tried changing from 60hz to 75hz with no luck and also messing around with Catalyst Control Center but I cannot seem to find a solution!

Any help would be greatly recieved :(

One of the posts I see points to MSI Afterburner being the culprit, if you have it then uninstall?
You should run on 75 HZ. Then maybe do the basic, remove completely the GPU driver and install the latest one?

Yeah I have seen posts blaming MSI Afterburner too, however I do not have it installed so we can rule that out. I have changed the frame rate to 75hz in windows Screen Resolution as well as in game but neither has made any difference. Also tried rolling back/forward my drivers - no luck :(

I had this issue earlier today since launching Gamma for the first time in my DK2.
Its happened to me twice now, each time its been after a patch where I first load the game on my monitor instead of the Rift to set up controls and such.
I found a post about this very issue, LINK.

Not ticketed as I assume things will sort out next week.

I've found the only way to clear it is to change the rift resolution to something really low and restart the game. If the haze is gone on the logo at the start you are ok to put the resolution up again.
This worked for me today.
(Last time I fixed it most likely by flipping every software switch available until something reset the DK2's pixel histogram.)

Hope this helps.

I've just tried changing the resolution in game through the rift to some of the lower settings then restarting the game but with no luck, the green haze is still there :(

I figured you may mean to change the resolution of the rift in windows but when I go to "screen resolution" the option to adjust res is greyed out.

This is starting to feel hopeless but thanks for trying!

Hmm... sorry that suggestion didn't work, I'd be very frustrated too.... don't give up hope though, its gotta be something trivial you're just missing.
Are you using the latest Oculus runtime? 0.4.3?

Don't give up!
Smearing is due to running at 60 Hz... either your settings are incorrect for your setup, or your computer can't manage anywhere near 75 fps (so the rift won't run in low-persistence mode). What are your specs?
Some people have that problem when their primary monitor is running at 60 Hz - it forces their rift to also run at 60 Hz. Some tips here: http://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/2f97fh/some_tips_when_using_your_oculus_rift_dk2/
It can also be challenging getting the in-game settings right for extended mode after you have tried it in direct mode. I'll post some screen pics when I get home, it's difficult to remember the exact process when I'm not in front of it.

Yeah I'm up to date with my runtime. I do hope there is just some simple thing i'm overlooking somewhere... thanks for your help.

My specs are Sapphire R9 290 GPU with an i5 2500 CPU and 4gb of Ram. I should point out that this set up used to work just fine before without all this nasty green haze everywhere, not sure what I've done to mess it up!

Thanks for the tips link, i'll take a look.

I certainly would appreciate it. I'm all out of ideas right now.
Green haze instead of black is not the same as smearing. Do other rift applications work ok in extended mode? There is an oculus rift bug since last night's gamma 1.01 patch so its not a great time to be troubleshooting E:D so perhaps try and confirm if other applications are working right now.

jumbo is right, I just tried running the game at 60 Hz and it smears a lot, but I still get black skies and it runs smoothly. I tried running as primary and as secondary, 60 Hz, 75 Hz and I can't duplicate your green haze.

I had the same issue. I found that lowering the gamma brightness then restarting the game (I also restart the oculus service but i'm not sure that it is mandatory) worked for me. Good luck ;)

one other thing that can cause weird colours is a loose video connection: check that all your cables and GPU are properly seated. Pop off that front panel on the rift where the two wires plug in and make sure they're in tight (mine were not). But of course that would affect every game - just trying to cover all the bases.

In case it helps, these are the settings I use for Elite. Too bad you'll have to test with your right eye closed today;)

RIft in extended mode and set as SECONDARY monitor and is plugged into the HDMI port of GPU (Nvidia 780Ti) (also worked when I had an AMD Radeon 7870).
My primary Monitor is left at native resolution and is only 60Hz (some people need to have thier promary set at 75Hz, but that isn't an issue on my system).
Note that I have the rift screen on the right side and the primary on the left, but that shouldn't matter.

Launch ELite, go into graphics settings, change monitor to secondary, res to 1920x1080, refresh rate to 75, set 3d(experimantal) to oculus rift(headphones or speakers). Click Apply.
Now the Yes/No confirmation box will appear only in the rift, so you have 8 seconds to put it on and click YES before it reverts to the old settings. Once saved, the rift display settings turn red.

Oddly enough, I also tried it with the rift set as primary monitor and I cannot get it to run in low persistence mode that way, even with the secondary monitor set at 75 Hz. The Elite graphics settings lets me select 75 Hz, but in game it is clearly only running at 60 as the screen smearing is quite bad.

Guys, I just want to update this thread and say thanks to all those who tried to help me over this past week.

First of all - I have resolved my issue!! YAY

Having tried all the advice given to me here and what with having no luck, desperation led me to uninstalling/reinstalling the Oculus VR drivers/runtime, which to my amazement has fixed the green hues I was getting.

I am not sure what I had done in the first place but I was sooo happy to finally solve this issue. Naturally I had other issues popping up, like the screen going black whenever I tried to turn the Rift on, but quickly discovered a fix for that (I had to roll back my Catalyst Control Center to version 14.7) so I am now happily about a third of my way to Sol, looking to find a better FSD than the stock sidey version!

Anyway I just had to return to thank you once again for your efforts, this is such a great forum guys and I look forwad to seeing some of you out there in the blackness (not greenness) of space.

Good news mate, well done for working it out. Personally I've not heard of this one before but it's bound to come up again and your update would help them :)

Awesome news!
Glad it got worked out for you.
May I recommend that you change the subject of the Thread to "FIXED - Green Haze in Rift" or something like that... this is jic someone else is searching for the same issue it'll be more apparent for them in the search results.
