CQC before CQC is put out to pasture.............

i wonder how much dev time it would take to implement a simple drop in drop out social mode which replaced any missing players with elite rated npcs? if not an obscene amount i would implore FD to add this before putting out to pasture.

CQC is such a great fun arcade shooter, but with too few playing it misses the mark as a quick 15min blast when you do not have the time to commit to a session (which is part of what arcade games are right? pick up then put down in short time spurts?)

CQC is so close to being spot on (if with limited content) and the one addition above would get me playing a lot!.

i would even buy some SLF skins to make it worth their while if they did it :D

lets not forget we all paid for CQC, as it was one of the major updates for season 1 so a little bit of dev time to keep it alive seems a reasonable ask imo

I posted this in another thread, but it was such a salty thread and not really about CQC... but, IF the above is remotely feasible, it would be great if FD considered it.

Man, I'd be down with that. I enjoy taking the odd short session of blasting (OK, OK, getting blasted) other players without incurring massive ship rebuy penalties. Plus I do want Elite in everything including CQC AND that tasty station permit!

They really just need to add bots, CQC is fun, problem is it competes with the main game, and naturally loses. So allow bots, so people can play.

A lot of games use bots as fill-ins I have noticed. this would speed up waiting time immeasurably...

another option. custom practice modes. you choose how many bots you want to take and what difficulty...i'll take all those sucker on!!!

Sandbox mode with any ships in arena maps would be the coolest of cool things ever in elite!! :D

If there were bots in CQC I would play it.
I would use it as a pure solo game though. I am not interested at all in multi player stuff.

From what I understood from what Sandro Sammarco said creating a good AI for CQC is quite complicated and would take up a lot of dev time.
I don't believe it would pay off in the long run, because soloists like me prefer the greater Elite galaxy anyway.

It can be built on I guess, if Fdev have any shot of reviving CQC I am afraid this is among the only options available. besides, Ai NPCs in game have brutal accuracy anyway..that would be plenty enough haha! :D

yeah me too! I'd play it for sure if I didn't have to wait up to half an hour for sessions!

amen. i might even let it take over the main game for a while as my 'regular stop' - IF it ever happened.

Add the NPC bots that were tricky to play against (iirc it was the 2.1 bots that everyone complained about) then we can at least get a game :)

If you put, even the 2.1 bots in CQC they wouldn't stand a chance. Sandro is right, bots that would be more than simply slightly irritating targets would require some effort.

In the main game when you take on an NPC, the NPC is good because pretty much all it needs to do out maneuver you and perhaps make good decisions of which weapon or counter measure to use when. In CQC, the bots would need to do this as well as handle hiding, using the structures, power ups and a much under appreciated tactic, good target selection. I am sure it could be done but would not be as easy as it seems.

I'd be happy with that. I use CQC to break the monotony of long distance exploration, and it's a pain when you fancy a bit of no-strings pew pew and you find yourself sitting in the matchmaking forever.

In an alternate universe, I'd happily hire myself out to FD to write some CQC bot AI for them. :) I love doing that kind of thing.

In the meantime, multicrew isn't a bad option. I've had pretty regular success flying someone to fly fighters for. Not *quite* as much fun as fighter-vs-fighter combat, but at the moment at least much easier to get.

Currently on an Xbox, if you don't have an Xbox Live subscription, you can only play in Solo mode, which rules out Arena altogether. A bot-only option for Arena would allow non-interactive Xbox users the option to take part.

Scoopy's notes are exactly right. And that's quite aside from how they might be scored.

I think Mike's idea of being able to monitor CQC lobbies, or some sort of pre-matchmaking, while in the main game is awesome however.

My last few rounds this past weekend (xbox) allowed me to crest Prestige 7, and hit level 10 after another couple rounds.
Yes, some days are more busy than others.
Nevertheless, there are also those few basic things that help with matchmaking. Like being certain that your NAT Type is set to Open, and often you might connect to ongoing sessions if you periodically check between the different lobbies rather than waiting only in one.

The community groups for CQC are the best they've ever been, I think. Between the Discord channels, facebook groups, faction wings, and clubs on xbox.... it's pretty good.
But yes.... monitoring the lobbies and any kind of pre-matchmaking sounds like it would be a huge boon. I've liked playing in there from the start, so it'd be great to see it grow.

I'd happily play it if I was up against variously rated AI. Ideally it should be merged in-game with CQC tournaments in real sectors.

Both Lobbies and Bots have been requested many times but It was clear from the David Braben AMA that we're not going to get them.

It's disappointing because its fantastic when you get a match or two. Best time to get a game is when Ed's doing his CQC sessions.

You add ;-
  1. Lobby - With the ability to host and join games.
  2. AI Bots - either making up the numbers or Player vs other Ai bots.
  3. Spectator mode - Where other players can see the fight in an external views.

and I reckon you've got an e-sport game right there.

Clearly. Given the excellent flight model, the freshness brought by the dedicated ships and assets, CQC is quite close to be a great game on its own. When they released the standalone version I was thinking FDEV had many things under the sleeve for it in a near future. Yet it happened other tasks cannibalized dev time.

I would add some things to the list:
  • Local & Global ladders
  • Tournaments/leagues curated by FDEV and or players factions, relayed in galnet (that would help weld CQC in the main game if it can't easily be integrated in it)
  • Introduce racing modes both for ships and SRVs (with variants like FAoff restricted for example)

Yes and wait to join a CQC match while in the main-game.

I would say, Join the game at stations, or join as spectators while in super cruise (Forced return to the main game if your ship is forced returned by interdiction / Mass lock). That will keep the trucker's happy.
