Before you nerf abrasion blasters

The currently bugged mechanic of hitting a surface deposit with two or more abrasion blasts giving two or more fragments does add a little bit of skill to surface/core mining.

I agree that Asps getting quadruple fragments of void opals is OTT, but think about adding some benefit to hitting with more than one blast.

e.g. Make it so that it takes one dead-centre blast, two near hits or 3-4 wild shots to knock a surface deposit off a roid.
Or maybe bonus fragments could be materials instead.

My solution is this.

Up the amount of mineral received per chunk by 100%

One hit with abrasion blaster knocks of one chunk near 100% hp, therefore receiving near 100% of that mineral (2t instead of the former 1t)

2 hits with abrasion blaster knock off 2 chunks near 50% hp, therefore receiving 1t each chunk, bringing it back to the same level of 2t per surface deposit.

Sucks for those that can hit with 3-4 abrasion blasters, but removes the 'need' for multiple abrasion blasters.

Deep cores should spawn various materials g1-g5 anyways, once blasted.

Small chance for surface deposit to spawn g1-g5 material, the chances being determined by the material type.

Low-value deposits release lower value materials

High value deposits have increased chance of releasing high value materials.

Or switch from surface deposits to subsurface deposits.

My suggestion is remove the duping bug completely. (Only 1 AB is necessary).
Then add valuable subsurface deposits to crackable asteroids (before cracking), giving you a reason to fill the now empty hardpoint with subsurface missiles. :)

Maybe slightly reduce the yield to compensate for the extra fragments from the subsurface deposits.

Fixes the exploit as well as buffing the SSMs.

Or switch from surface deposits to subsurface deposits.
No thanks, that would be awful.

Frankly, I think the subsurface mining to be a complete waste of time. It's just a poor cousin of deep core mining. Having to to use sub-surface missiles on roid chunks released by deep core mining would make it tedious.

However, the abrasion blaster is actually fun to use. And the extra fragments for concurrent multiple hits has added a touch of extra skill to the mechanic.

I'm concerned that any fix to this mechanic will negatively impact all forms of mining. Let's face it, when FD nerf something, they tend to overdo it.
