Beginer Explorer Ship? :)

Hey Guys,

I am new to Exploring and I want get my Rank up to near Elite. I did exploring currently with my T6-Transporter which is ok, but not fun, because you need to wait over a hour to fuel scop (Because the big Scope costs 16 Mio).

So I looking for a possible alternative. I have ~ 8 Mio Credits I could Invest, so I thorugh of a Diamond Black Explorer. I have no clue about Engeneering (never used any of this Feature)

I am more of the Guys, who want get a quick Rank up, so I followed a Guide say only fly on K-Stars and Scan for planets, ignore Astroids etc. with that I did 2 Mio Credits in 1 Hour, which seems ok, sadly I needed to turn arround very quickly.

So it would be cool if some of you can help me Fit a Ship I can use for long exploration tours, like 3-4 Hours.

Thanks a lot guys!

If fuel scooping being slower is a problem for you, you might want to give the DBX a pass - or at least fit a smaller fuel tank than what's stock.
Other options in your price range that I'd say are worth looking at would be the Dolphin, the Adder, the Hauler, the Cobra Mk III.

Oh, and I'm not sure what guide you read, but you'll want to expand your route filter to the more luminous stars too. So A, F, G as well. As their habitable zones get wider, so too will you find more valuable planets around them.

So I should fly to A, F, G and K Planets? And only Scan Planets right? Do you have any Fit Tips for a DBX? I have no clue what to fit in. Sadly my Money is that limited =/

My goal is to reach the max rank fast as possible, however not break down stuff, so if I miss wrong stuff, I dont worry. I just dont want "slack" if you get what I mean :)

Thanks!

You'll find some help here. Look in 'Business Trips' to find two road maps to scan only valuable planets and earn money fast.

DBX is a good choice, but as Marx said, the scoop ain't very fast. As a general rule, use a small tank or simply never fill it up completely (unless you're on the galactic rim and fuel needs some strategy). Scoop on each jump, don't wait for you tank to empty before stopping to scoop.

Marx' suggestions are viable. If you can't afford the biggest A scoop, go for the B grade, usually a lot cheaper and performs close enough.

I'd have quite liked to have had the Dolphin available when I first started exploring.

This is my present build and it's made it to Beagle and beyond.

OK so it's engineered to hell and costs 12 mil but it's a great starting point as the base ship only costs 1.3 mil and you can achieve a lot with it.

Cobra3 is a lovely boat, cheap, and with only a little engineering can get you enough credits to get an AspX, AND let you unlock Alioth to get a CHEAP AspX.

The T6 is great, the only problem you seem to be having is too small of a fuel scoop.
Buying a better scoop is much cheaper than buying a whole new ship and upgrading it.
The DBX's fuel tank is twice the size as the T6(edit), so it will take twice as long with the same scoop.
Hauler seems like a downgrade, it has very little space for things like an srv.
I say keep the T6 and spend on the best, largest scoop it can fit when you can.

Later when you have more money get an Asp.
Just know the 6A fuel scoop on my explorer fit AspX cost 28 million credits.
The ship is only 6 million.
The bigger, higher class scoops are very expensive but they are great for exploring.
The large class A scoops are very expensive.

T6 is a great explorer ship.
I still have mine.
Jump range is decent and boost speed is good too.
It has tons of room and is really easy to land, especially on rough planet surfaces.
Way easier than an Asp for that.

(Also buy your stuff in Li Yong Rui controlled systems for a 15% discount.)

edit: basic T6 explorer template https://eddp.co/u/Ax36aipQ
5A scoop is 9 mil

Go with the T6. It is a fine explorer with good jump, enough amount of slots and can scoop pretty fast.
This build for example can scoop faster than the DBX ever will and it is still under 6M. The only differences with a "top" build is just the scoop and AFM.

One last thing, the T6 can fit a 5A scoop but the DBX only a 4A, despite the larger tank.
Coriolis refuel times for
T6/5A fuel scoop = 0:27
for DBX/4A fuel scoop= 1:33

So it actually takes over 3 times as long to refuel a DBX.

Why are you lying?

(edited to add)

Ok, let me rephrase that. Given your stated 8 million credit budget, a 5C scoop at half a million credits is well within your price range, and would scoop a full tank in under a minute. Why say that you cannot afford a fast scoop for the Type 6, when you very easily can?

In fact, never mind. Plan B.

Maybe he never thought of a class C scoop? TBH I've only ever thought in terms of Class A or D equipment, for a very long time!! I don't think I have ever fitted or considered fitting a class "C" of anything!

I think Scoops may be the only item that "C" makes any sense on?

I considered the possibility, but a 3A scoop would also be well within that budget (at around 1 MCr) and would scoop in under two minutes. Even a 1E scoop will refill a Type 6's standard tank in a quarter of an hour, and if they've got a Type 6 and 8 MCr they can't be simply inexperienced, so they're either lying or taking hyperbole to new heights.

In any case, I'll leave it to those more patient than me.

(a) long exploration tours, like 3-4 Hours.

This gave me a good chuckle.

But to your point, OP, I'd advise just buying a better fuel scoop for the T6. I spent many months exploring in a T6 and was very happy with it. You can easily get an A rated fuel scoop for it for well under your budget.

If you must get a new ship, the Hauler can get almost 40ly without ever entering Farseer, Inc and for less than a million credits.

Can't go wrong with that DBX. Made my first trip to Sag A* in one, so it has a special place in my heart. She was built just for exploring, pre-horizons, all D-Rated except for the A FSD and A Fuel Scoop.

Here's a cost comparison of all available exploration capable ships, along with jump range and speed comparisons.

In Jump Range Order ...
A Diamondback Explorer equipped will run you ~12.6 million. https://eddp.co/u/aZhFyvzl (60 ly)
Even stripped down to minimum the DBE will still run you over 11 mil.
A Dolphin can be had and fully equipped for around 8.5 mil. https://eddp.co/u/wxiX9SXz (50 ly)
A Type 6 fully equipped for exploration will run around 7.7 mil. https://eddp.co/u/1dnWhEk2 (46 ly)
A Courier is fun to fly and can be equipped for exploration for around 6.7 mil. https://eddp.co/u/dxwJaLjP (41 ly)
